weird rain!

Post by tomcatuk »

Seems to be the most popular subject rain, so here's another thread about it... today we have had no rain, and as I write this at nearly middnight we have still not had any today, but my graphs show we have, any idea as to what could be causing this?

My only thought is a bug or something in the weather station....

Very unlikely if it is a 'Davis Vantage Vue'... ;)

How and where is your 'Davis Vantage Vue' installed - is it mounted on a wall (or something solid) or is it mounted on a pole (metal or plastic)?

Those graphs look too reasonable to be anything other than genuine measurements. Melting snow?

Hi Ray its on a short pole where it has been for the last three years or so, never had anything like that before, I have to go and check it as its means getting the ladder out and been to dam cold...

It's almost certainly snow melt which will start when the temp hits around +2C. It's happened on my VP2 for the last couple of days. When we got a load of snow 3 years ago I tried using a cheapo hair dryer to melt it but gave up. In any case it would have recorded a seriously high rainfall rate.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Would agree with snow melt. My graphs have been the same for the last few days as soon as snow in the funnel starts to thaw.

No precipitation today.
