Anemometer against a spider

Post by HansR »

Are you aware that spider threads are able to hold the anemometer from functioning?
Both speed and direction were blocked by several threads holding against 2 beaufort. Amazing!

Had seen this before but apparently this is pretty normal, have to be aware in autumn.

Has happened to me numerous times. It's why I have my anemometer on a telescoping flag pole so I can run the pole down and take care of that stuff.

Yeah, when I feel like not running it down I take a water hose to it and that solves the problem. 8-)

Magpies sitting on the Anemometer & shitting down onto the wind cups & body is my biggest Baine.
It can get glued up to the point it needs 10km/h to register.

Rain usually washes it off & clears it.
Need a few bird spikes, but it's around 9m up.

I usually disconnect the rain cable in the ISS before I do this and make sure the spoons are empty before I hook it back up; if not I empty them.

I got the updated Davis rain cone and it came with bird spikes on it that I use and have had very few issues with bird doo. I think the spikes are an option but not much more expense for them.
