Peak Gust Missed
I noticed my peak wind for the day in Cumulus is different than what the Davis consoles have. Cumulus had 29 mph, while the consoles all had 30 mph. Doesn't seem like a huge difference, but for severe gusts it is. I have not seen this issue in some time and was curious if this could be a new software bug. I am running Cumulus v3.12.1 (3143) with the LOOP2 option enabled. All Vue consoles have firmware v4.30 and the one that is connected to Cumulus is so through a COM port. Thanks

Re: Peak Gust Missed
What is your wind gust period set to?
If LOOP2 packets are being received (check your log), then the 10 minute gust value from the station is checked against the Cumulus value, and if greater the station value is used. But only if your wind gust period matches or exceeds the consoles which is 10 minutes.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
The wind gust period is set to 10 minutes. In the log file I see:
2021-08-17 16:22:41.259 LOOP2 enabled
With several lines of:
2021-08-17 16:32:30.512 SendLoopCommand: Starting - LPS 2 1
2021-08-17 16:32:30.593 SendLoopCommand: Starting - LOOP 50
I assume the LOOP2 packets are being received?
Could this instead be a rounding issue? For instance if the console reports 29.5 mph as the peak wind, will Cumulus round this value to 30 mph, or is it just taking the integer? I have Cumulus set to round wind speeds, but I am not sure if this affects peak winds as well.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
The VP2 console only records and reports wind speeds in integer mph.
I cannot see where the issue may be at the moment!

Re: Peak Gust Missed
It happened again today. Cumulus so far has 26 mph while the consoles (I have 3) all have 28 mph for the peak wind.

Switch on data an debug logging and wait for it to happen again. Note the time of the high gust on the consoles and then attach the log file for that period please.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
Peak wind was missed today. Davis console reports a peak wind of 30 mph at 14:46. Cumulus had 28 mph at 13:32. Attached is a snippet from the log one minute either side of the Davis consoles reported peak wind.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
Not that this is the answer, but it's not a good idea to install Cumulus MX to C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)

Re: Peak Gust Missed
Something to do with writing permissions being protected, which means files would be written to C:\Users\ etc.
Ideally, C:\Cumulus MX would be the best option for installation.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
As mapantz said, programs do not have permission to write to Program Files (unless they are run as administrator). So your data files will not be where you expect to find them. They will normally be written to /ProgramData. The big problem comes when people switch from running as administrator to an non-privileged user and vice versa. You end up with two sets of data files.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
Thanks for the heads up! I went ahead and moved the program. However, I'm not sure this was causing the peak wind issue as I have had this program in this directory for a few years now without any issues. This issue seemed to have creped up recently, within the last month. Not sure it was related to the recent Cumulus release.

Re: Peak Gust Missed
I have a similar issue. Cumulus is missing the peak gust for my Davis Pro 2 just about every day. Cumulus is showing my gust 1-2 mph higher than my console. This is going back as far as my console memory would go (Aug 3). Only two days did it get right. All the other days Cumulus is too high by 1-2 mph. So far today my console peak is 10 mph, and Cumulus is showing 11 mph (with the correct time).

Re: Peak Gust Missed
I forgot I have a wind multiplier set. That's why it's higher. I need coffee.
But then I guess the two days where I said Cumulus got the peak gust right would be days where the actual peak gust was missed?
