RJ11 connectors

Post by brookr »

I'm sure many Davis owners have come across this issue with their wired products. So many wires and so many connections. The connectors after a time become brittle and the little lugs break. I have a problem sourcing the correcting RJ11's. I have an RJ11 at the back of my dated Weatherlink for my Weather Monitor 2 and the little lug for holding the wire has broken. My set up still works well, so it's not a case of replacing t he Weatherlink hardware. The little RJ11's measure 7mm and 9mm across. (see attachment).
Where can I find /source the correct RJ11's without having to buy another Weatherlink device?

I have always found RS products work well

https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/ethernet ... lsrc=aw.ds

but Amazon and loads of other people supply them

Hi,

Also on ebay, where you can find a suitable crimping tool at a ridiculously low price, for example this (chosen at random) or even with a cable tester for not much more. FWIW the 6-pole version (same size, more contacts) is called RJ12.

Or ready-made cables (which you might cut into two) are used for "American Telephones" or "UK Broadband" connections. One of my "reliable" suppliers is Kenable, particularly via ebay, for example this (or about 70 different ready-made cables). ;)

Cheers, Alan.

The smaller connector is an RJ10 (4p4c), the larger one is either an RJ11 (6p4c), or RJ12 (6p6c) depending on if it has 4 or 6 wires connected.

You can buy the connectors for pence from 100's of places - try an eBay search.
You should get the correct type for the cable - solid or multi-strand conductors. The solid core connectors have staggered "pins" that pierce the cable, the multi-strand have the "pins" in a just down the centre. But if practice you can get away with either.

It helps if you have a proper crimping tool to press the connectors into place, but you can do it with a small flat bladed screwdriver if you are careful. The crimping tools can also be had fairly cheaply via eBay.

Ok Thanks everyone
The connectors are the small 7mm width - I managed to get a pack of 10, but still having problems. What I probably need is an old compatible and working Weatherlink. Perhaps someone has one in their box of spares. It's a 1998 model, so it doesn't owe me anything. Picture as previous.
Thanks
Rob
