Updating from Oregon WMR200 to Davis Vantage Vue
Hi Folks,
Been around since 2009 recording the weather here in Mid-Pembrokeshire UK and am look for my 3rd weather station having worked through a Fine Offset followed by an Oregon - both of which become unreliable after five years or so! I have always used them with Cumulus Software.
I'm now look to go for a David Vantage Vue and The Weather Shop is offering three options.
I can't afford the full bundle and rarely look at the console but what would I loose if I went for the option of Sensors plus Weather Link Live bundle? Anyone other comments on the Davis Vantage Vue and where and what to buy would be appreciated!

Not having had one I cannot comment on the Vue other than it is a comprised design in that you cannot separate the sensors to best effect. That is get the wind sensors up high, whilst keeping the T/H and rain down low where they should be. If you can live with that is up to you.
The WLL will work fine (in fact very well indeed) for live data, but if you want the historic data catch-up for downtime of downtime of Cumulus (or any other program), then you will have to purchase a Pro subscription to weatherlink.com. If you buy the two year bundle it isn't too costly. The price of a Davis data logger for the Vue console will buy you many years of subscription!

Hi Mark
I take your point about the sensor array in your 1st paragraph, but thanks for the added info about historic data in the 2nd. So you have to have the console or subscribe to weatherlink.com for this feature?
I was wondering about pressure, indoor temperature etc. but I read the Data Logger measure barometric pressure, inside temperature, and inside humidity, as my Oregon Console does at present.

In Davis systems with a console then that contains the pressure sensor and indoor temp/hum. But WLL can obviously be used without a console, ie just ISS + WLL, so WLL is designed also to include pressure sensor and indoor T/H. So depending on exactly how your station is configured then bar and inside T/H could come from either console or WLL. (The traditional Davis loggers, eg the USB one or the WiFi logger, don't have pressure or inside T/H in the logger - they pick up these readings from the console to which they are attached.)

Now that is a bit of a downer here because we often get high winds and rain together. Anyone else noticed this as a issue?

Re: Updating from Oregon WMR200 to Davis Vantage Vue
It's inevitable I'm afraid - all-in-one designs all suffer from this limitation. It's just a basic fact of weather monitoring - height is good for optimal wind speed readings but bad for rainfall because of wind effects - it's just physics.
I know budget may be a limitation but if cash allows and you need to prioritise BOTH wind and rain readings then the VP2 ISS is always going to be a better bet (with its separate anemometer). We've got a bundle of VP2 ISS (ie no console) and WLL for £649 currently - see: https://shop.weatherstations.co.uk/davi ... -154-p.asp (and select 6100 from the dropdown).

Re: Updating from Oregon WMR200 to Davis Vantage Vue
Well thanks for the warning and making me aware of a possible issue in certain conditions. Unfortunately, I have a limited budget so will remain with the Vantage Vue. I do have a good quality manual rain-gauge which I have always kept available, if only to check my previous weather stations accuracy at times. I will make a point of checking it to see how the Vantage Vue manages in my garden.prodata wrote: ↑Wed 30 Dec 2020 2:28 pm It's inevitable I'm afraid - all-in-one designs all suffer from this limitation.
