WMR 200 Oregon Scientific

Post by Swede »

Hi,

Just dl'ed Cumulus last night and am VERY impressed.

I had a Davis Vantage Pro (no data logging, just readouts) for a number of years (8-10?) but the sensors stopped working so I thought I'd try something different this time (OS WMR200(?)). I liked it okay but OS software is primitive and buggy. It would log for awhile then stop. Have to remove the program via Windows Task Mgr (AltCtlDel) and restart. So data was not continuous.

After trying Cumulus, I've found a home. Thanks.

PS - I hit the donate button.

Can anyone point to a way in the WMR200 to change the home city? It came through with Hong Kong as the home city and when I try to change via the OS software, the cities option page is all greyed out and won't allow any input.

I suspect Cumulus is reading Hong Kong as my home base as as sunrise/sunset/etc. info is WAY off for New Jersey, USA.

TIA.

Sorry, can't help with the station settings, but Cumulus does not read location data from the station. Check your settings in the Cumulus configuration.

Thanks your reply, Mark, but I cannot see where to enter my location other than longitude and latitude which I have entered correctly. Cumulus has Sunrise as 21.34 where it should be 7.26 for example.

It sounds like you have E/W mixed up, or you have entered the longitude with a minus sign?

Found my problem. I had to enter the Longitude as as -74 instead of just 74. Sunrise, etc. appears to be correct now.

Interesting too, is that Cumulus changes the Lat/Long on its own. I suspect it looks up the nearest location in a table and uses that. For example "The latitude of Lavallette is 39.970N. The longitude is -74.069W." but when I entered those into the config, it changes them to 40.27 and 72.69.

No biggy, just curious. Am really loving this program.

That is because Cumulus wants the lat/long in degrees, minutes, seconds not decimal degrees. So 39.97 should be entered as 39d 58m 12s

Either convert to dms before you enter, or stop Cumulus and enter the decimal values directly into the cumulus.ini file - but you may not want to go there yet!

Putting negative values in will also cause odd effects as the negative will only apply to that part of co-ordinate (e.g. the degrees) and not to the others (the minutes and seconds). I should really have checks in to stop negative figures being input.

I didn't realize that. Makes good sense if I had thought about it. (am a slow thinker {sigh})

I won't be fooling with any ini's for awhile, until I get a better feel for things.

Thx your help.

Steve, I want to compliment you an a job really well done. I am VERY impressed with your program. The interface is very very impressive.

I am a long time programmer myself and was really disgusted with the OS interface. I found Cumulus just by luck and am very glad I did. Saves me from having to delve into learning how to read the USB data from the WMR200. Have done serial port reading but never USB. Plus I would never have designed as atttractive an interface as yours.

I have another question. Does anyone know if the OS WMR90A receiver will read the signal from the WMR200? I'd like to have a receiver downstairs as well but really don't want to have two weather "vanes" (transmitters) on the roof.

Or would I have to get another WMR200 receiver ($150 more).

Does the WMR200 hold any data itself? IOW if Cumulus is not running for any reason (say a hour or couple hours), will it be able to "catch up" from the WMR200 when it starts back up?

TIA.

I got a response from OS but it wasn't really clear (to me) if the WMR90 (or 100) would read all the 200's stuff. Something about the wind speed. Fuzzy answer really:
At 11/9/2011, OS wrote:

I'm not sure I understand. Will the WMR90 receive and display the wind signals from the WMR200?

>If you want, you can just get the console. I can just offer you up to 15% discount so that you will never get any problems with the compatibility of the main unit and the sensors. Here is the link to it. http://us.oregonscientific.com/cat-Weat ... nsole.html

Is that 15% off the $199 price or off the $229 price?

Just as an aside, your ad says "atomic time" but the time did not adjust on my receiver for DST.

Thanks your reply.
