Rain monthly and yearly counters reset...

Post by lormarte »

Hello!
Due to a malfunctioning of the rain gauge I've to insert the rain date with the specific function "Today's rain"...
After I've restarted cumulus Rain monthly and yearly counters have been reset on the display...
Obviously also in the home of my web site...
I think the problem is on the dayfile.txt...in fact the dayfile is all ok but the file doesn't recalculate the monthly and yearly reset although I've insert the total daily rain....

Can anyone help me??

My website is http://meteosgv.altervista.org

Thanks.

The facility for editing today's rain isn't intended for use for manual data entry, so you are likely to have problems if you try to use it for that purpose. The best way is to amend dayfile.txt the next day (using the editor in Cumulus), and then restart Cumulus so the monthly and annual totals get recalculated.

If your monthly and annual totals aren't showing correct values according to the daily totals in dayfile.txt (and you have restarted Cumulus), then you probably have a problem with that file. Cumulus will normally flash the error light and show you the error if you click on it. If that isn't happening, and you can't see a problem in dayfile.txt, please zip up the diags folder and attach it, together with your dayfile.txt file.

It's correctly calculated your monthly and annual total at 6.1mm

13/01/2014 21.38.22.937 . Rainthismonth from dayfile.txt: 6,09999990463257
13/01/2014 21.38.22.937 . Rainthisyear from dayfile.txt: 6,09999990463257

But for some reason it's not using those figures. I think it could be because your rain gauge is broken and not sending any data. Perhaps it doesn't update the totals until it gets a rain reading. I'll investigate.

Yes, it doesn't update the rain totals unless your station is actually sending some rain data (i.e. has a working rain guage).

Infact actually the rain guage is not connected..!!

Exactly today morning I've received the new rain gauge...this evening I'll connect and verify again...

Thanks Steve!

Cumulus isn't intended for manual data entry, it's for displaying data from a weather station. I have never given any thought to catering for manual data entry when writing any of Cumulus. I would have to look at the code to see if I could change it to support this particular use, but it wouldn't be a quick change as I would have to make sure I didn't break it for everyone who does have a working rain gauge.

Just out of intrest.

A question to the OP.

What was the problem with your rain gauge, as I'm also waiting for a replacement.

Mine wouldn't increment the data, and kept the rain rate at 999mm/h
No amount of resets new batteries or cleaning seemed to fix it.

So a new gauge has been ordered.
