Changing to an Oregon weather station

Hi folks

I've been offered a second hand WMR918 weather station and would like to know if the Cumulus data files collected by my old Lacrosse WS2300 unit will be compatible with the data files that will be created by the new Oregon unit.

That is, can I retain all my old data or do I have to start anew?

ps What's the difference between the WMR918 and the WMR968 ?

Yes, you can just carry on with the same data file.

The 968 is a newer version of the 918, they made a number of improvements along the way - better solar panels etc

Finally got my new/second hand Oregon WMR-918 weather station up and running and it's working a treat with Cumulus

One question. What are the little bar graphs that appear in the status box? (see picture below) Are they battery statuses (statii?)
for the solar panel backup batteries?

Yes, they indicate the battery conditions. I should probably have made that more obvious, but I don't get to see them normally (my Oregon station is defunct) so I hadn't noticed.

A few months ago, when I was using a LaCrosse unit, I had a problem where my dayfile.txt and yesterday.ini files were not updating. (see https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=639)

Well, I'm having the same problems with my Oregon WMR-918 unit. (Running on com1)

I've attached a copy of my cumulus.009 file from first thing this morning. Also there doesn't appear to be any readings in the Jun090log.txt file from the time I switched my computer off last night until I booted up again this morning. The weather station runs 24hrs/day.

Does the WMR-918 have a datalogger, is this the problem?

No it doesn't - I had assumed you knew this, sorry for not mentioning it. You really need to be running Cumulus all the time with these stations, or as you've found, you get gaps in your data and no day rollover (e.g. no dayfile.txt entries).

So, if I used the 9am roll-over setting, would it create the necessary files if my computer was running at that time? (with obvious gaps in the data, of course)

Yes, it will do the rollover as long as it is running at the rollover time, but of course much of the data in dayfile.txt will be spurious (e.g. your daily minimum temperature would normally be wrong if it hasn't been running overnight).
