Hi Javier,

I see you keep improving your magnificent application, congratulations !.
Thanks, glad you still like it :D By trial and error it improves and seems pretty stable now.
kocher wrote: Wed 19 May 2021 10:33 am I have come across a problem of a compatriot that I do not dare to try to solve without your support.

The problem is the following;

Let's imagine a user who has heard of cumulusUtils and wants to install it on his PC and on his website.
We assume that, on your PC, there is no folder dedicated to cumulusUtils.

The question is:
Would it be possible to write a summary guide for a new installation of a new user on a PC that did not have cumulusUtils installed? :groan:
After reading the "README.pdf" file I can't find a simple explanation for this question.
I am not sure I fully understand what you are saying. The current README points to the Wiki, especially the CumulusUtils starter article, which contains the basic installation and run and configuration instructions. Yes, if I need to add things for a starter, let me know and I will improve it where I can. You can also start a modification yourself (it is the Wiki ;) ) if you have access.

But the idea is that everybody who has basic computer knowledge (see the paragraph Assumptions) with this Wiki must be able to get up and running. If there is missing or wrong information, let me know and I'll improve it. But I think the summary guide is the Wiki. The README is a starting point, nothing more.

The original manual/README became difficult to maintain so I rewrote it as a Wiki. That may not be perfect yet, but it is easier to improve.

I think the installation guide is there (nothing more than create the directory structure and copy the distribution) and then run it.
If you need more specifics as summary guide, please let me know.

Best regards,
Hans

Good afternoon Hans

Thank you very much for your explanations; I had forgotten the content of the WIKI.

So, I will try to explain in my own way, the steps to install the application for the first time:

1) Download the latest update (compressed file): viewtopic.php?f=44&t=17998

2) Create a folder called "utils" on our PC, inside the cumulsMX folder.

3) In this folder you have to unzip the content of the downloaded compressed file.

4) We can now run "utils / bin / cumulusutils.exe [command]" from the cumulusMX directory

Are these steps correct?

I will include a screenshot so you can see what's happening, probably something stupid that i forgot but i can't figure it out!

Hi Marc,
I can't read the DOS screen messages but from your "i get this message :Must run in cumulus directory..." it appears you are not starting CUtils from the correct location.
My CUtils is in C:\KomokaWeather\CumulusMX so C:\KomokaWeather\CumulusMX\utils\
To run CUtils in the correct folder, so it can detect the Cumulus.ini, I start in the CMD DOS screen with CD.. to the C:\> root, then CD KomokaWeather then CD CumulusMX which gets the C:\KomokaWeather\CumulusMX> prompt.
From that prompt enter utils\bin\cumulusutils.exe website
Or replace website with whatever parameter you wish to run.

To automatically run CUtils once a day at midnight: in Settings - Internet settings - External Programs - Daily programs I have C:\KomokaWeather\CumulusMX\utils\bin\cumulusutils.exe and Daily programs parameter website

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi Marc,

In addition to Paul's remark I would like to say that because you are using Cumulus 1, the application of CumulusUtils may be somewhat limited as the development over the past 1,5 years has driven it in the graphics direction. This means that the use of the website with Cumulus 1 is not so useful (the required datafiles are not there) but the other modules may well be of interest.

Or you could switch to CumulusMX ;)

Hans

So how does that work if you need to be in CumulusMX\ ?

Surely you need a batch file ?

.. or am I misunderstanding the 'run from' context.

@beteljuice, It just works... Mark has done the hard work for running External Programs.

just fill in the Internet settings External Programs in either Interval, Realtime or Daily section. For website it only needs to run once a day so I have it in Daily program with the full path, and for Daily program parameters entered website, but any of the parameters can be used.

Enjoy,
Paul

No you are not misunderstanding. It probably works because Cumulus itself is also running in the Cumulus directory so the working directory is already OK. Then the spec of the binary to run does not change the working directory, it just starts up the executable. It probably could also have been the relative path. Paul might try that to confirm.

@Hans, yes your thought is correct. I have just tried it as just utils\bin\cumulusutils.exe website in the Interval setting and that works fine, it ran twice before I removed it from the Interval section..
I have gotten accustomed to use full path as much as possible, especially with more than one program running.

Enjoy,
Paul

If you know what the working dir is, that full path is reassuring that at least you the correct executable if you have more than one floating around ;)

It helps keep one's sanity too, when you have more than 2 or 3 or... when trying beta and testing 8-)

Hi, all

Thanks for the reply's but i am running cumulusMX build 3021 and if you open the screenshot in another tab you can enlarge it and then you can see it's in the utils-directory like per instructions in the WIKI so if anybody would take a look at that!

Thanks in advance!

@staccermaccer: Indeed, I was mislead by the window of WDisplay which I saw for Cumulus 1.
But nevertheless, if CumulusUtils claims it is not run from the CumulusMX directory it most likely will be that.
So do:
  1. do:

    Code: Select all

    cd c:\users\Boven\Desktop\CumulusMXDist3130\CumulusMX
  2. run:

    Code: Select all

    utils\bin\cumulusutils.exe website
If that does not work, please post the logfile from that run.
The logfile must be in utils\utilslog.
