Re: Forum Reorganisation
Correct you should be posting in one of the sub-forums that have replaced it.

Re: Forum Reorganisation
Thanks for the operation, looks good.
Just the search went into an infinite loop when I was looking for systemctl and I got a white screen back. Twice.

Re: Forum Reorganisation
It's not an infinite loop - the PHP script that sends the query to the database is timing out because the database took too long to respond. I increased the timeout value the other day - I will tweak it upwards again now.

Re: Forum Reorganisation
Ok. Not sure endlessly increasing the timeout solves the problem. It was somewhere between 30 and 60 seconds before the screen went blank. If a search takes that long, there is always an alternative.
My guess is, it should take about 15 - 30 secs max. Before a result pops up. Indexing??

Re: Forum Reorganisation
That is definitely not the strategy, and I didn't suggest that it would be the solution. This was only a temporary thing to enable your search to complete, which I was going to revert later. On this forum we try to do tweaks intelligently
A single word search should return in seconds.
Indexing was only just done last week by @water01, but will do it again later. Incidentally, I just enabled another setting on the server (multibyte strings) and your search returned in seconds. I have been meaning to try this for a long time, having read up on it months ago, but have been rather busy just lately.

Re: Forum Reorganisation
I'm not going to do the indexing as the enabling of multibyte strings has sped up the search massively. Please let me know if you have problems with search again.freddie wrote: ↑Tue 24 Mar 2020 7:14 pmA single word search should return in seconds.
