I am now based on an Ecowitt HP2551 that talks to a Ecowitt GW1100 gateway and all is working fine in CumulsMX.
I woke up during the night and I must have been thinking of this (I am prone to this I always seem to fix programming problems in my sleep ), and thought why can't I just connect CumulusMX directly to the HP2551 as they seem to have the same functionality and Ecowitt themselves say that the HP2551 is a gateway.
So I closed CumulusMX edited the .ini file to reflect the IP address and MAC address of the HP2551 and restarted CumulusMX. No such luck, couldn't find station, invalid checksum etc. etc.
Should this work or are the GW1100 and the HP2551 running different outputs even though they look very alike in their setup?
Just in case anyone wants to look here is the MXdiags.

Hi David, it does not look like it is compatible at all does it. Could you possibly try it again with data logging enable as well?

Re: Silly me!!
OK Mark here you go.
MXdiags1 is the HP2551 IP address and MAC and it fails.
MXdiags2 is the GW1100 picking up the HP2551 and all loads correctly.
Both logs have Debug, Data and FTP logging set.

Re: Silly me!!
The responses are not even vaguely the same, so no chance of any simple tweaking there.

Re: Silly me!!
OK thanks Mark.
Puzzles me that they can make supposedly two alike bits of kit but have different protocols. It must make there update procedures for firmware etc. much harder, why not standardise across the range!!
Oh well.
