Amended title - Transferring Met Office Upload From Weathercat to CMX

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Amended title - Transferring Met Office Upload From Weathercat to CMX

Post by The Dalek Hunter »

For a very long while I have been using WeatherCat to upload my data to the Met Office. There are a few problems at the moment with Weathercat (the developer seems to have disappeared)

So just in case it all goes pear shaped I am transferring all my third party uploads to CMX

In CMX I am asked for a Site ID and a Pin

I have the site ID and then an observation ID but I can't find a pin

Any help would be appreciated !

PS Sorry my original post said Wunderground :bash:

The pin is typically the password you use to log in to WU. That's what I've used anyway.

Thanks for your reply - I am getting old and senile! I meant upload to the Met Office - I have amended the title accordingly

I have a pin, and looking at it, it is one I have defined.

On this page they say The the Authentication Key is also known as the PIN...
Before you attempt to upload you will need 2 numbers. The first is your Site ID. This is an arbitrary number that is used to distinguish your site from another. This number appears (in brackets) next to or underneath the name of your site on the site information page, for example (956916003) for pre-June 2016 sites or (6a571450-df53-e611-9401-0003ff5987fd)

The second item you require is the Authentication Key. This is a 6 digit number that is used to ensure data is coming from you and not another user. If you do not know (or have not created) the Authentication Key, go to the Edit pages of any site you own and the value is an option under the Site Details section. Create and enter a 6-digit numeric PIN of your choice (it is not supplied by the kit manufacturer). The Authentication Key may also be referred to as the 'AWS Pin'.

Ok - thanks - found the PIN but still can't get it to work

Here is my WOW site https://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/observatio ... =971276001

It has been up since before 2016 so the Site ID is obviously 971276001

I have put this and the PIN in the settings and restarted CMX but no upload happens.

Looking at the CMX logs I am getting WOW Response: ERROR - Response Code = Forbidden, body = You do not have permission to view this directory or page.

If I turn upload back on in Weathercat then upload begins again.

I have left catchup off and have solar and UV on in the settings (I have tried with both off as well)

AND it's working!

No idea why - I presume I had tried so many attempts with the wrong ID I had been blocked!

Switch on debug logging and see if that gives you a clue - My WoW misses the odd update due to a server error at the WoW end, but 95%+ go through fine, I am running a 5 minute update period.

The logs now show no error uploading to WOW - every entry is OK

It *is* updating sometimes every 15 minutes, sometimes every 30 minutes and occasionally only every hour.

Is this likely to be their end rather than mine?

I have uploads to Windy, Weathercloud, Wunderground, PWS Weather and Awekas and the Met Office all set for 15 minute intervals is this likely to be too much for CMX?

No problem as far as CMX load goes, I update a good number of 3rd party sites for testing purposes at 5 minute intervals without any problems.

Please switch on debug logging for a hour or so and then post the log file. I'll take a look and see if I can spot anything.

It looks OK, out of 7 uploads, one failed with an error at the WOW end.

With 15 minute updates any failure will leave a fair gap in your data. Maybe try reducing the update time to 5 minutes and see if that helps.
