New PC - How to copy in previous configurations

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

New PC - How to copy in previous configurations

Post by inmyrvm »

I'm sure there are instructions on this but I wasn't able to find them. I have a new pc after running MX for the last year or so on the old one. What's the process for getting my VP2 data ingesting again without starting from scratch? I was using MX with the built in web site templates. I have my entire MX directory from my old pc stored on an external drive so everything should be there.

Thanks,

Mike

You might just need to download & install a CP210x USB to Serial Driver & then go into Device Manager after you plug the console in & set the Port;
In my case I've always had Com3 set & also lock the Baud Rate to 19200.

Cheers

Thanks. Is it necessary to reinstall the WeatherLink program prior to running Cumulus, if for no other reason than to provide the PC with the needed drivers to interface with the VP2 datalogger?

That's about the only reason to install it; to get the drivers loaded.
But you get old versions anyway...

Better to just download the latest ones from here.... https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-t ... cp-drivers

I did that just recently, June maybe?

Other thing I installed before running MX was VPLive. http://www.softwx.com/weather/vplive.html

Simple too to check that your PC is communicating with the console.
Also can make calibration easier if needed.

Cheers.

Thanks for those tips.

When I ran Cumulus MX for the first time on the new PC I got the attached pop up window saying my windows time formatting was off. I remember seeing a warning about that in the Moving Cumulus Wiki but I'm not sure how to correct it. Anyone know how to do this?

Probably need to state what Country & Regional settings you are using.

Also take a look at what was set on the old PC if it's still operational.

Assuming you are running Windows on your PC:-
right click the windows icon
click run
enter Control Panel
click on region

set
Short date d/MM/yyyy
Long date d MMMM yyyy
Short time HH:mm
Long time h:mm:ss tt
First day of week Sunday

Click OK

The settings should match what you had in your old PC.

Thanks.

I was able to change all those to what you put down except the first one, short date, didn't have d/MM/yyyy as option (see attached). Can I manually set that or is there another option to make this work?

Since your country is USA I presume that is the reason.

The formats offered will change to those used in the country selected in the Format: panel.

You must set these to what you had before as you have moved the data from you old PC

I don't think I ever checked this setting on my previous PC. I've always been in the US so I just assumed it was set to English (United States). My old PC is dead so no way to check it.

So I'm a little confused by the error message. It says it doesn't recognize the format in my today.ini which is:

2021-09-17T07:10:00

Shouldn't I then set my short date to yyyy-mm-dd to match the previous today.ini?

Here's what it looks like in the Region panel but I still get the same error message after starting cumulus:

So, is this a completely new install? i.e. you have no CumulusMX files from your old PC?

If so then you need to request the Region settings from another user in the same region and use those.
Also request the first part of
today.ini
cumulus.ini
and make sure the formats are the same in each file.

It looks like you have tried to use the ini files from Cumulus MX with Cumulus 1. They are not compatible.

Cumulus MX does not have any Windows dialog boxes like that, it is a console application without a Windows GUI.

Oh my gosh that must be it. I was just blindly following the instructions in the Moving Cumulus Wiki which has a direct link to download Cumulus and I completely forgot there were two versions. So I need to start over and install Cumulus MX. Thanks for catching that.

Now I finally have the right software (MX) but it doesn't look like the data is flowing. MX starts and I get the attached output. But no data is showing up in the admin interface. All zeros. This is a new PC and I copied in my previous MX settings. I installed WeatherLink, but I didn't go through the usual set up process. Do I need to do that and get it connected to WeatherLink first, and then turn off WeatherLink and run MX?

Also, I remember when I got this running on my old pc a couple years ago there were some options I could add when running MX to get some additional feedback on what was going on. But I don't recall what those are and I couldn't find them in the Wiki.
