Ecowitt GW1100 problems.

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Ecowitt GW1100 problems.

Post by water01 »

Now I may be working under a misapprehension here but when my Maplin WH1080 started playing up and with the addition of the Ecowitt GW1000/GW1100 and HTTP stations to the supported list I invested in a GW1100 and HP2551.

Why both? Because my understanding was that you got data from a HP2551 to CumulusMX via a GW1100 gateway. ;) ;)

But I am getting problems. If I select the station type as GW1000 and set it up with IP and MAC addresses every now and again I get "Invalid Response" and the data stops. Attached is full debugging log, with Debug, Data and FTP logging enabled. You will see that around 17:23:45 the log shows an "Invalid Response", but it manages to reconnect around 17:24:17 and starts re-reading data.

Then at 17:33:50 it gets another "Invalid Response" but this time it goes fully "tits up" and this continues until 20:19:05 when I noticed it and pulled the USB connection and then plugged it back in and it immediately reconnected!!

I must add here much KUDOS to betaljuices's MXDiags Interrogator which makes sorting through a long MXDiag log really easy http://www.beteljuice.co.uk/DEMOS/newmx/diag.html

Now if I stop using the GW1100 and just use HTTP to the HP2551 it works perfectly without a hiccup.

So am I doing this wrong or do I have a faulty GW1100 or am I being a prat :D :D .

At least it eventually "recovered" and started reading data again!

AFAIK you don't need the gateway (GW1100 or GW1000) for the HP2551 station as the functionality is built into the console. I would suggest you disconnect the GW1100 and continue to use the HTTP Ecowitt station setting as you have tried - at least you get human readable data log from the station that way 8-)

Don't think yo have anything wrong, more like you are loosing you wifi connection occasionally.

First thing I'd do is download a favorite little util I use all the time when suspecting these issues.
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/multiple_ping_tool.html

Let it run for hours, days whatever to get an idea of your connection stability to the GW1000.

Doing exactly that now with a heater controller that's falling off Wifi.

Looking at the log around 17:24 it appears the network connection for the computer failed?

The GW1000 stopped responding, your FTP connection was closed, and the MySQL database connection also failed.

The same happened at 17:34, the FTP reconnected at 17:36, but the GW1000 went awol until 20:19
That would indicate to me that you have more widespread network problems affecting both your main computer and the GW1000.

Thanks Mark and the 2 Phils.

Network has always been reliable but I am checking it out.

In the meantime the HP2551 is running fine on HTTP.

One question on that. I have set the Interval to 20 sec on the interface but it seems to be updating on the dashboard about once every 30 seconds. Have I forgotten a setting?

MX updates the dashboard every time it gets data from the console. How frequently that data updates is down to each sensors transmission interval.

In times before CMX 3.1.3142 you would need a GW1000 (GW1100) in order to get your data from your Ecowitt (clone) sensors into CumulusMX.
Then you choose/chose station type GW1000 and that should work perfectly.
CMX could not communicate with a HP2551 console.

Ever since Mark implemented the http gateway functionality for Ecowitt protocol (CMX >= 3.1.3142), CMX can receive and process the console data from any Ecowitt (clone) console which uses the WiFi firmware EasyWeather > version 1.5.0. These consoles (WH2910, WS2320E, HP350x, HP2551) have the so-called customized server functionality where the console data is sent to an IP address of your choice in either Ecowitt or Wunderground protocol.
They can now all be used by CMX.

From this point of view only the purchase of an additional GW1000 was redundant. However, it has the same functionality as the HP2551 console (only no display); therefore it can serve as backup or for many other purposes.
