Rainfall resetting before midnight

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Rainfall resetting before midnight

Post by BrunswickWeather »

Today I notice the rainfall for this month was 8.4mm less than it should be.
Every few days I close down Cumulus MX and run Cumulus1.
There was a difference in monthly rainfall of 8.4mm

It appears that the daily rainfall was reset before midnight (at 11:57) on the 4th but the rain since midnight column was not reset.
Cumulus MX does not run 24 hours a day. It would have been closed at this time. I notice the times are 23:50, 23:55, 23:57, 00:02, 00.07
I do not have the Diag file for this time as it is 7 days ago.

Re: Rainfall resetting before midnight

Post by BrunswickWeather »

I found a backup from August and then run Cumulus MX on it.

It appears that from the times in the files I may have closed Cumulus MX just before midnight.
This is from the updated backup version

It appears when the program is running the times recorded are at 5 min intervals and recorded at 05, 10, 15, 20 etc but when the program is restart and the data from the history in the weather station it is e.g. 04, 09, 14, 19 etc or in my first post 02, 07, 12 etc.
So I must have turned the program off after the 23.55 was recorded (in first post)
Also the new rainfall ( in the first post) of 0.3 in the first 4 minutes after the midnight was not shown until 22 minutes after the hour
but in Easyweather plus program download of 0.3 is at 12:11 am
Confused? I am!
Enclosed the latest diags but does not show error.
My solution, don't stop the program near midnight.

Unfortunately the FO log memory does not contain date time stamps, just a time in whole minutes ago that the entry was created. The way Cumulus currently calculates the date time stamp that could perhaps be improved. In the log file you attached, the last log entry was read at 10:30:30 and the entry had an "age" of 1 minute, which CMX deducted to get a "log time" of 10:29:30.

I can see that if CMX is stopped around the rollover time this could cause issues.

Perhaps CMX could do something a bit more intelligent when calculating the log time for the record age - I'll have a look
