unable to save internet settings

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

unable to save internet settings

Post by dahl327 »

setup cumulusmx on windows. Station up and running however I am unable to save any settings on the internet settings page.
I input settings for ftp and weather underground, hit the save settings button but nothing saves. Tried closing, re-booting windows. Nothing seems to work.
Windows 10. Any suggestions? 3.10.5 b3122.

Do you see any red borders around the input boxes when you try to save settings? Do you get a confirmation message that "settings have been saved"?

That is almost certainly the problem. No program released on windows installs in a User directory. Usually it is in a Program Files or Program Files (X86) directory but in the case of MX it is best to install it in the root of the C drive i.e. C:\.

make sure you run it as an Administrative user as well or use the function that Mark released to install it as a service.

The wiki states avoid “program files”

https://cumuluswiki.org/a/MX_on_Windows ... _to_run_MX

Put it in C:\CumulusMX\

Possibly an error in input? If you can save on other settings pages then the underlying code appears to be okay. Can you supply a screenshot (blanking any passwords first)

Can you confirm you ran the netsh command too as part of the setup?

Code: Select all

netsh http add urlacl url=http://*:8998/ user=\users
Worth stopping CumulusMX first, the run the command.

Make sure this is run in an administrator command prompt window.

He must have done (or be running as administrator) as other settings pages (such as station) are working just fine.

My answer is based on my experience with older releases where the code may be different to the release you are using.

2 Questions:
1) Freddie has twice asked you if MX is highlighting any errors in red, but actually a critical question is do all 16 sections appear on your Internet settings page?
If not, then there is a problem with the page loading correctly, as the "Save" button appears before the sections are loaded, but is only activated once the page has finished loading.

2) Freddie says you have confirmed that saving is working on all other settings pages, but is that right?
Apart from Freddie, it seems others have been assuming no settings work.

Each settings page depends on several files working together, all of these are in (on Windows) the \CumulusMX\interface directory. Therefore, I suggest you replace all files in that folder with a fresh set taken from the download, this action will not affect any settings you have already made (as they are stored in \CumulusMX\Cumulus.ini).

By the way, installing your MX there was NOT wrong, MX will work there, although it is not best location.

The reasons why loading it at a root folder of any disk/partition is suggested are
1) Any user can access there, while within the user file hierarchy access is limited to that user
2) It is always best to keep path names short, longer paths can get truncated and thereby cause problems

hi all,
finally got to spend a little time on this. sfws, I followed your lead and decided to delete all files and start again. Downloaded and saved files in c:/cumulusmx.
This time all is working as it should.
Thank you all for your help.
