Not updating every 60s

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Hi,
@freddie that link for me shows an auto update every 5 minutes, nothing in between - over the past 2 hours.

Mine are both definitely a problem with either a server cache or my PC browser cache.

I started checking shortly after 10:15 this morning
komokaweather.com/cumulusmx started with a time of 10:15 and it is still the same for me at 12:16
komokaweather.com/cumulusmxwll started with time of 10:00 and it is still the same for me at 12:16

I have tried clear browser cache, F5, ctrl-F5 many times for both with no change in time stamp
I have then tried by extending the url with /index.html?xxxxx to make it a unique url, and this has at times changed the date stamp but as soon as go back to /index.htm back to the original times.

I have made sure that the latest setpagedata.js is FTP to my sites.
However a F12 did not show this latest version. The following is the file info:
My setpagedta.js from download zip

Code: Select all

 * 	setpagedata.js		v:0.1.0		d:Mar 2021		a:Neil  Thomas
 *  Last modified: 2021/03/23 11:19:16

komokaweather/cumulusmx browser F12

Code: Select all

Data success   setpagedata.js:144
Then right-click on setpagedata.js to open in new window

Code: Select all

/*	----------------------------------------------------------
 * 	setpagedata.js		v:0.1.0		d:Mar 2021		a:Neil  Thomas
 *  Last modified: 2021/03/19 09:21:06
 * Basic scripts for all new at-xxxx.html template pages.
 * Incorporating changes suggested by beteljuice
 * 	Requires jQuery
 * 	----------------------------------------------------------*/
komokaweather.com/cumulusmxwll browser F12

Code: Select all

Data success   setpagedata.js:144
Then right-click on setpagedata.js to open in new window

Code: Select all

/*	----------------------------------------------------------

So to me this shows a server or browser issue, and I can't enjoy what everyone else can :(
I think the many difficulties I've had in doing updates is caused by this same issue :groan:

Trying to enjoy,
Paul

That's how it is set up. The page updates the displayed values every minute - you can see this by using F12/devtools - but my data file is updated every 5 minutes, which is correct for my setup. I was just showing that the 60-second updates are actually working.

Hi Paul, I see your site komokaweather.com/cumulusmxwll is now using the latest script and is pulling the JSON every minute, your other site is still showing the old script. It looks like your host is caching files?

It looks like your host is using a cloud based firewall/caching service called Sucuri/Cloudproxy. That is probably where the issues are occurring.

@freddie, thanks, that helps to clarify.

@Mark, after seeing the power-balls on freddie's site I started to look more closely and I got a number (44) on one site :o
But nothing on the other :cry:

I am sure it is my hosting and will need to have a more productive discussion with them.

Enjoy,
Paul

Looking more closely, the site komokaweather.com/cumulusmx is also getting an older version of the websitedata.json file than the other site!

Hi Mark,
I have just download the file from my komokaweather.com/cumulusmx server and opened in Notepad++ and this is the heading:

Code: Select all

/*	----------------------------------------------------------
 * 	setpagedata.js		v:0.1.0		d:Mar 2021		a:Neil  Thomas
 *  Last modified: 2021/03/23 11:19:16
 * Basic scripts for all new at-xxxx.html template pages.
 * Incorporating changes suggested by beteljuice
 * 	Requires jQuery
 * 	----------------------------------------------------------*/
which I think is the latest download.

This is downloaded from /cumulusmxwll:

Code: Select all

/*	----------------------------------------------------------
 * 	setpagedata.js		v:0.1.0		d:Mar 2021		a:Neil  Thomas
 *  Last modified: 2021/03/23 11:19:16
 * Basic scripts for all new at-xxxx.html template pages.
 * Incorporating changes suggested by beteljuice
 * 	Requires jQuery
 * 	----------------------------------------------------------*/
And this from the latest download on my PC:

Code: Select all

/*	----------------------------------------------------------
 * 	setpagedata.js		v:0.1.0		d:Mar 2021		a:Neil  Thomas
 *  Last modified: 2021/03/23 11:19:16
 * Basic scripts for all new at-xxxx.html template pages.
 * Incorporating changes suggested by beteljuice
 * 	Requires jQuery
 * 	----------------------------------------------------------*/
I think that shows the version FTP to my hosting is ok, and that my hosting has cached the earlier versions, of which there have been at least 3 over the past couple of days. I think the same thing has been done in the past where I have had problems showing updated versions. So frustrting.

Enjoy,
Paul

Have you got Cloudflare set up on it?

A few years back, I had Cloudflare set up and it was causing caching issues, so I turned it off and it sorted it out.

Hi Mapantz,
Not that I am aware but will check my cPanel and see if I can find that.

Thanks,

if (pageName == 'index.htm' || pageName == 'today.htm' || pageName == '') { added to the setpagedata.js

Does it work now?
