One solution to the distribution overwriting the standard web site template files is not to edit them.

Create your own files (or copy the standard templates) with different filenames and add them to extra files and disable the standard files upload. If you are customising the web site then you may well remove/add pages as you progress anyway and the standard set will not longer be a fit.

As for the additional 990 KB extra data you have to download in the distribution to include the standard web files, what once or twice a month, come on! Loading this forum page twice consumes about the same bandwidth (without caching)!

Agreed, the included T files are "standard files". If they are edited then no longer "standard".
Cumulus 1 and CumulusMX both have settings to include or not include the standard files for updating.

If you edit and customize included standard files, or add new files, then give them an appropriate name and add to the extra web files settings.
For my convenience I place any edited and extra web files in a separate \web-added folder.

I like the current CumulusMX download method, all inclusive and just unzip. I keep the unzipped download in separate folder and then copy all the files and folders except \MXdiags, \data and \Reports and paste in to my working \CumulusMX. All takes 2 or 3 minutes. Of course first copy the full existing \CumulusMX folder as a current backup. I do a similar update approach for CumulusUtils - takes just a couple of minutes now with its own \utils subfolder.

I have helped a new user more than once to get a standard Cumulus website in a very short and easy manner. Then the fun begins...
