Crash on shutdown

Post by broadstairs »

I've started to get a crash when I close Cumulus on my live weather PC running W2K. I briefly see a message from Cumulus which then disappears before I can do anything with it (there are some options) and it is replaced with the usual Windows message about it failing. I'm not sure when it started but has happened about 3 times now. This install of Cumulus is normally up 24x7 unless I need to update it. Any ideas on how I can get to the message and save some useful info?

I'm seeing that too. It doesn't appear to cause any problems. I think it is to do with the new startup logging I have put into the 'beta' version that you (and I, and a few others) are using. If I can work out how to stop it, I will. I did manage to capture a dump, but it wasn't too helpful, and I have more urgent things to look at anyway.

Circumvention: Briefly close your eyes after closing Cumulus.

No problem Steve, so far it does not seem to happen on my XP system with the test install. Now I know you know about it I'll go away and wait for you to work you magic when you get a chance.

Steve just a thought on my test install on XP I dont have the internet functions active so I don't know if the problem could be because the internet stuff is running on the one which crashes. I do now have a bug report from a crash if it would help.

Stuart,

That could well be it. I don't get it on the machine I use to develop Cumulus, where I don't have it set up to do uploads.

Please do send me the bug report, it may be more use than the one I got.

Thanks,
Steve

It does seem to have been the new logging component. I have removed the message that I log when Cumulus closes, and it seems to close OK now without throwing an exception.
