Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
I have configured the uploads to CWOP (Citizen Weather Observer Program) for the two Cumulus weather stations as I want to get off of Weatherunderground.
That said I can see data going there via my firewall logs.
The customer service folks (actually a NOAA person) saids that my stuff isn't getting to their servers.
That said though checking on validated users data; I see that much of it is not present leading me to believe that CWOP has issues and not me?
Is there a way to validate the CWOP functions in the Cumulus logs like the WUN FTP uploads?
On a side note I am also updating a personal web site (Comcast) just fine with the two Cumulus weather stations and its been doing fine.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
I've had a look at my CWOP packets and they all seem to be there for the last 24 hours, and all of the servers seem to be responding.
You can turn on the debug log and see the updates in there, with any errors. You probably won't see any more than you're seeing in your firewall logs, though, as there is no response to the update; the protocol just involves opening a socket and sending the data. You might see some errors being logged.

Thank you Steve.
I have left the debugging on and just see
Is there anything else I should see?
I see the WeatherUnderground and FTP to personal site uploads in the debug file just fine.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
You should be seeing something like this, and/or some kind of error message mentioning APRS:
2919.3544 : DW0688>APRS,TCPXX*:@211724z5914.55N/00235.27W_133/020g036t041r001p006P003h85b10150L000eCumulusDsVP
If you're not seeing that, and you have it configured correctly, then it might be that a previous problem has caused it to stop working; you could try restarting Cumulus.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
I shut it down and restarted Cumulus. I am running Version 1.9.3 build 1055 of Cumulus.
I am still seeing the same message as above
but not the APRS message that you posted.
My configuration is: (from INI file)

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
My guess would be that it's failing to connect to the server. But if that were the case, it should time out after 20 seconds and put an error message in the debug log. Are you sure your firewall is configured correctly?

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
Ah, actually it doesn't log an error message for an APRS connect timeout. So that's almost certainly what's happening. You should see the 'updating APRS' message appear in the status bar, and stay there for 20 seconds.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
I have checked the firewall and it is configured and open for port 14580.
I am seeing the Updating APRS on the status bar for around 20 seconds (longer) and nothing in the debug logs other than the previous message that I posted.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
So it's not able to connect to the server, and times out after 20 seconds. Sorry, I perhaps wasn't clear when I said "you should be able to see...". I meant that if you were seeing it for 20 seconds, that's proof that it's timing out. When it's working, it should only be there for a few seconds.pete_c wrote:I am seeing the Updating APRS on the status bar for around 20 seconds

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
So I went to the console as I was looking at it via VNC.
It did just blink "updating APRS" where as when I look it at it via VNC it is slower.
That said I am currently looking at the server with my network sniffer and doing a capture filtering only on traffic to and from the Cumulus box.

I'm afraid I can't think of anything to suggest. It's some kind of network/internet problem; the firewall is the obvious candidate.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
Thanks Steve.
The sniffer capture did show it leaving the box but it still just showed the same message in the debug; IE: APRS Updating.
I then opened up the firewall and shut off the web proxy instead of just the opening the TCP port and now its working.
I have multiple internal networks and multiple sets of rules on the firewall (smoothwall). Its on a dedicated W2003 server. That said nothing else is running on it but I do have AVG/Malwarebytes/Windows Firewall enabled. That said had also to adjust software running on the box plus the Smoothwall stuff.

Re: Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) Upload checking
Just a comment on the support from CWOP. I dealt with some very pleasant folks with great communications.
Here is the link for CWOP running right now. Next to set up is APRS.
