Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
I would like to join the Citizen Weather Observer Program using Cumulus to link to my CWOP Weather Station. My weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro2 Wireless. Can I do this? If so, I assume I would be using APRS? But, then, where do I get the information for the "APRS Settings"?

Re: Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
first, you must be internet-connected. second, you must register with cwop. then, insert your cwop ID in internet settings and "enable" APRS in Cumuls. all else should be pre-set. it will work!
Re: Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
Thanks Lex. I don't understand what is meant by inserting CWOP ID in internet settings. I'd much appreciate a detailed explanation so I can do this.

When you register for CWOP - http://www.findu.com/citizenweather/cw_form.html - you get an ID (aka "Registration Number"), which is what you enter in the box in the internet settings in Cumulus (Configuration -> Internet).

Re: Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
There is one problem with the settings in Cumulus.
There is no setting for Lat/Long thereby disabling the map (station location).
This is mine with the map.
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?DW2221
That would be a nice feature to add.

That info does not seem to get to that site as it does when I use VWSaprs.
I just get a black box instead of the map/radar.

Re: Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
Cumulus sends the co-ordinates, and as far as I'm aware it does it correctly. Here's what mine sends:
DW0688>APRS,TCPXX*:@110948z5914.55N/00235.26W_153/026g034t043r000P000h83b10122eCumulusDsVP
My co-ordinates are Latitude N 59° 14' 33" Longitude W 02° 35' 16" which Cumulus is correctly translating to APRS format.
My page also has a black box:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/wxpage.cgi?DW0688
But it says 'no radar within 150 miles', which is understandable.

Re: Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
But when I use VWS and the associated program VWSaprs.exe it shows up just fine as a map with my location marked and the radar.
You can see what it supposed to look like in the link above.

What do your packets look like when sent with that, and with Cumulus?

Re: Using APRS in Cumulus to Link to CWOP from My Computer
I'm glad you asked that.
Now I realize the problem. I had E instead of W for Longitude as you can see below.
DW2221>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-3:@131337z4044.40N/07518.67W_063/002g002t028r000P000p000h51b10353v31
DW2221>APRS,TCPXX*,qAX,CWOP-2:@131341z4044.40N/07518.66E_126/004g009t029r000P000h50b10340eCumulusDsVP
All fixed now.
Thank you very much.
I use VWS WF WL and Cumulus, and I keep getting drawn back to Cumulus.
Great program and support.

The Cumulus software worked fine for me. I get a Weather Service Radar Map which also shows my weather station location.
