Moon Phase Description Error
On my index page the moon phase description does not match the moon image and also on the Cumulus console. From what I can see the image is correct for the moon phase on both and the description for both incorrect. On the Davis console both are correct. So where does Cumulus get the data for #moonphase and is there a way to correct to show the correct description.

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
What do you think is wrong? The Moon is currently in a waxing gibbous phase.

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
I thought that it was first quarter as shown on the Davis console and a weather app. Maybe I am also getting confused with the shape of the moon icons as it shape is similar to first quarter. I down loaded the eight moon phase png files to use with the #moonphase to change moon phase picture on the index page. I have to change the files names to suit the southern hemisphere.

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
It's the old chestnut of how long does a phase last? Different apps use different lengths of time to "hold" a phase description.
The four quarter phases are really instants in time, the period we choose either side of that instant to call it a quarter name is arbitrary. I lengthened that time slightly in MX from what it was - which l assume was what is used in C1.

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
Hi apple8,
Just an observation, your image for last quarter is actually a first quarter image for Southern Hemisphere.
First Quarter was on 14th Sept.
Actually same goes for your Waning Gibbons image, should be reversed, as it is Waxing Gibbons for Southern Hemisphere.
Take a look at mine here in Tasmania (also southern hemisphere) : https://beaumaris-weather.com/wxastronomy.php
kind Regards,
Tony

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
Ok thank you, that explains it well, and after more reading, I can see anything in between the primary phases is either waxing or waning which is the majority of the time.mcrossley wrote: ↑Tue 14 Sep 2021 5:25 pm It's the old chestnut of how long does a phase last? Thanks Tony, I have altered the file names to correct the images for the southern hemisphere and changed the indexT file so #moonphase determines the correct png file. Hopefully I got it right. Time will tell.BeaumarisWX wrote: ↑Tue 14 Sep 2021 10:06 pm Hi apple8,

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
Hi apple8,
I have not used cumulus1 for eons now and cannot understand what you are changing or trying to change regards the current moon phase on your site http://www.blazingcomet.com/weather/, but the moon image as far as I can see is correct.
Maybe someone who still uses cumulus1 can assist you.
Oh and thank you for the kind words, the website is always continually under development and never finalised, but I try.
Kind Regards,
Tony

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
Seems to be correct ATM ?
Although strictly speaking should have left the names as they were and either flip and mirror images in an editor or used css to rotate 180 deg. (The images are upside down for the Southern Hemisphere).
@tony ....

Re: Moon Phase Description Error
Well spotted. I rotated the images 180°and replaced the old so maybe this time I got it right.beteljuice wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 11:39 am Although strictly speaking should have left the names as they were and either flip and mirror images in an editor or used css to rotate 180 deg. It is something I found on an old post on the forum, by changing the line starting with <td rowspan="3"><img src="images/moon.bmp" alt="Moon" to <td rowspan="3"><img src="images/moonphase/<#moonphase>.png" alt="Moon" so it will display a custom image rather than the cumulus bmp image.BeaumarisWX wrote: ↑Wed 15 Sep 2021 9:32 am I have not used cumulus1 for eons now and cannot understand what you are changing or trying to change regards the current moon phase on your site http://www.blazingcomet.com/weather/, but the moon image as far as I can see is correct.
Might be time to rethink MX if I can get enough courage.
