How Much Bandwidth

Post by Super-T »

In Cumulus1 I have found that I have used up my 20GB of bandwidth, the monthly allowance.
This does seem excessive and I was wondering how much Bandwidth can I expect to use when set to a 5 minute update time?
I guess I will have to scale back by updating every 15 minutes.
Anyone got experience with this? How much Bandwidth should C1 use?

You'd need to add up all the files that change at each update and multiply by your frequency
Obviously any that grow over the month you need worst case number of days etc and then the end of day stuff
I hit this same issue with my hosting provider (which is me randomly!) and moved to hosting a server at home and a dynamic DNS service

See this information from Steve Loft.

In this original Cumulus software, you can delete some of the web templates, to reduce upload as well as changing upload interval. Also reducing the period plotted on the graphs that are uploaded can help.

I have not looked at this matter since a long time ago but back then I formed the impression that I was using about 5 GB a month. My update interval remains five minutes.I am still on original Cumulus but plan to upgrade to MX as soon as I get around to it as I wish better graphs and I want to see my new Airlink.
My cumulus generated weather site is at http://pastoll.info/weather

I forgot to mention, long ago when I had a public web site (with original Cumulus), I hit the bandwidth limit due to too much traffic accessing my web site, rather than what Cumulus uploaded being too much! Back in those days, prior to social media, I shared photos (updated only once per month) on my web site too.

I update my site every 15 minutes and looking at my CPanel the average per month appears to be around 1.55Gb.

@Super-T, you must be uploading some huge files to reach that amount.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Don't forget, the general info on the left panel of cpanel is bandwidth for everything e.g uploading your files and people accessing your website.

I've used 8.2GB / Unlimited this month. The majority of that is from viewing traffic.

It's also possible that bots could be sucking bandwidth too - happens a lot on any website.

So http is the problem with ftp quite minor in comparison.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

So check your stats ...

See if it is your business or leisure that's getting all the traffic ;)
