Weatherunderground API going away - how will it impact you?

Post by bob_hatcher »

See https://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/

I use Cumulus to read my weather instruments, then send it to WU. My station is here: https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us ... 71.6644352

My IPTimelapse software then reads the WU station data and inserts it into the time lapse video (see www.bobhatcherweather.com).

With the API for WU going away I will be searching for an alternative solution. (Unfortunately, I don't know how to get IPTimelapse to read from Cumulus or the weather station directly).

Any thoughts on my situation and how will this affect you, if at all.

Bob

I use Cumulus MX to process a text file, but not upload it.

I set IPTimelapse to read the processed text file:

Brilliant, never thought of that, thanks. You use Cumulus MX but I am using Cumulus. Can I do it from Cumulus or should I switch to MX? Can I trouble you to tell me where in Cumulus MX you tell it to export the text file?

You should be able to do it on the original Cumulus by going to internet settings > files, i think?

You only want it to process the file, no need for FTPP'ing it. :)

That is awesome,
Will see If I can figure it out tomorrow.
Getting ready to dump WU, so tired of their crap after almost 20 years of giving them free data.
Thanks.

Hey Mapantz, the file that Cumulus puts out has a lot of data. How do you parse that so that you don't get a lot of junk on your screen? I only need temp, dewpoint, wind speed and wind direction.

Is it possible to limit the data being written to realtime.txt?
How do you get the text to go on the second line versus the first?
