Small low powered PC

Post by profzarkov »

Hi
I've been a Cumulus user for some years but had a break as I now live on a narrowboat but have recently returned to my hobby and have bought a new station (WS3083). It works well mounted on my boat and the excellent, stable software is good too.
I do upload to a website but it is tricky as power usage onboard has to be monitored. I am currently using a laptop and would like to,ask for help in finding a low, power computer to run Cumulus - I see there are a few windows tablets and also Raspberry Pis, what would folk recommend?
Cheers
Steve

Ohh yes please :-)

I'd love to get CumulusMX working on a Pi (I've just acquired a Pi 3 B which looks ideal), but I'm a Windows sort of guy :-) Has anyone done a step-by-step guide or produced an ISO for a basic default setup?

Chat soon.

Hey guys I would like to say a big thanks to you all for helping me over the years.

So I took some time making a pre-built raspberry pi image as I saw on the forum people saying is there a step by step guide to set all this up.
The pi image contains ….
: Samba file server
: mono version 4.0.5 don’t work with fine off set but I will be making one
: Cumulus MX release - v3.0.0 build 3043
: Pi updated to the latest packages 29/04/2018
: Firmware updated to the latest 29/04/2018
: Remote desktop

Pm me for the link to download

Have you got Steve's permission to do this as if you haven't you are not allowed to distribute his software, only Steve can do that?

Just for the record - CumulusMX runs just fine on the lowest-powered Raspberry Pi you can get. Pi Zero W is the model of choice so that you can use the USB (OTG) port to connect the weather station and have wifi on board (PiZero without the W would need a USB hub and a WiFi dongle ... so is more expensive).

The only problem With PiZero W is it is very slow doing the original installation (especially installing mono-complete). But you can do all the setting up on a Raspberry Pi 3 and transfer the made-up SD card to the Pi Zero W.
