"Record data" not matching real data
Hi there,
from one day to the others Cumulus is showing totally wrong "record data" (rain) and I do not know where it comes from....
Correct: Incorrect: Anyone an idea where the 500+ mm rain in the record comes from (apparently on 4 September)...
Many thanks in advance

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
You had some kind of problem with the rain data supplied by your station on 4th September. You can correct the spurious data using the information in the FAQ and Wiki.

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Hi Steve,
Thanks
ppan2015
a definite NO, as there is no such recording in the station system. It has to be "made up" by Cumulus somehow.. There is also no entry on 4 September in the Dayfile.txt.You had some kind of problem with the rain data supplied by your station on 4th September. Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Cumulus uses a counter supplied by the station to determine its rainfall data (exactly what that counter is depends on the type of station. I can't tell you what the counter is for your station as it apparently has no name). Cumulus expects the counter to increase in a sensible manner. If something goes wrong with that counter, even temporarily, then the rain totals recorded by Cumulus will be correspondingly incorrect. There is no code in Cumulus to make up rainfall data.
As you have no entry in dayfile.txt for that day, this is presumably related to the rainfall counter supplied by your station doing something unexpected. One way that this can happen is if you allow your PC to sleep while Cumulus is running. The diags file which was current at the time should have information about the cause of the problem.

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Hi Steve,
thank. But then the rain data must be somewhere in the station and it is definitly not. We have not had rain for 102 days and all data in the station with regard to rain is "empty".
Any way to reset the "record data" of cumulus?
Thanks
ppan2015
P.S. I also checked with another weather software I use on a different computer. It does not show any rain for 4 September whatsoever...

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Hi,
But we have no idea what that is because your profile describes the station as "No Name" and you haven't told us the manufacturer or model number.
Cheers, Alan.
There must be "rain data" stored inside, or supplied by, the "station", in some form.ppan2015 wrote:the rain data must be somewhere in the station and it is definitly not.

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Hi,
That looks exactly like the standard "Fine Offset" (manufacturer) WH-1080 which are well-known to produce occasional "spikes" in the data that they transmit/receive. They are the main reason for the "spike removal" settings in Cumulus > Configuration > Calibration settings. But note that these only work on the "live" data from the station, not from the logger catch-up.
Note also that the description for that station says "Solar", but it is only solar charging, so you should NOT select the Station Configuration option of "Fine Offset with UV/Light sensors".
Unfortunately (incorrect) "Records" can get stored in various locations or files, so you may need to work through the "Edit" tab in Cumulus and the assistance given in the Forum Wiki and FAQs (top right).
Cheers, Alan.
PS: It also looks as if the station reported some rain on 30th July.

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Thanks, Alan.
I used Cumulus for a year now with any problems, so I am a bit surprised that such a major error comes up now.
Can I completely reset Cumulus to start from scratch?
Regards
Christian

Re: "Record data" not matching real data
Hi,
Maybe you have a (new) source of radio interference, although 868 MHz is generally better than the much-used 434 MHz radio band. The transmitter does use a CRC validation code, but it's not 100% reliable.
Also, can you check the Transmitter batteries? The "Rechargeable Alkaline" type can be more trouble than they're worth. I've posted quite a lot about them on this forum, but there is no "perfect" alternative.
You could just move/rename the Cumulus/data folder somewhere else (rather than delete it). Then it might be necessary to "re-install" Cumulus "over the top" (which doesn't take long) if it doesn't start up correctly. Or just install Cumulus into another folder and run that instead.
Cheers, Alan.
