Bad Wind Gust Data

Post by Ken22 »

Hi,

Yesterday, I noticed my "New Record" indicator flashing and I was not happy
to see a new wind gust just recorded at 245 mph. The actual wind gusts were
around 37 mph.

My Oregon Scientific WMR968 seems to be functioning fine now and I have never
had anything like this before.

It took me quite a while to find all of the data files that had to be edited
to get rid of the bad data. Then I remembered that under: Configuration ->
Spike Removal -> Wind Gust, was set to 22.0 m/s

Why didn't the spike removal prevent this problem?

If it happens again, is there an easy way to fix the data files?

Ken

Spike removal only works with Fine Offset stations (the ones that tend to produce spikes habitually). Cumulus does try to remove obviously bad readings independently of that, but it's difficult to catch absolutely everything.

The FAQ and wiki have information about fixing bad data, and what data is held in which files - the information is fairly comprehensive and I don't think there's anything useful I can add to what's there.
