Problems with startup

Post by terim »

I have a new Win10 Home 64bit machine so not much on it. Installed Cumulus and everything is fine except I can't find which directory to put a startup link.
shell:startup does not work
shell:common startup starts it in my wife's user account but not mine.
editing the registry "run" folder where I have other startups doesn't work either.

Suggestions?

Have you tried using Task Scheduler, as suggested by the FAQ? http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#How_do ... _starts.3F

While I like Windows 10, they have now made it so difficult to automatically start a program at boot. I never used to use the Task Scheduler to do this, but before I switched out to the RPI3 I was forced to do it....and in actuality, I wasn't starting it with Task Scheduler...I was starting it with StartWatch which I had to use Task Scheduler to start. I'm sure it can be done the same way with the Cumulus (note, I use CumulusMX, but I'm sure that method will work with Cumulus 1.x.x).

I am having the same issue with Windows 10. Note I am using Cumulus MX, but am posting here to try avoid multiple duplicate topics

I have tried to use the Task Scheduler, as described in the Wiki, but it does not seem to be working. I get the Wunderground messages in the middle on the night saying it has stopped receiving data and I find that Windows has done another (self-inflicted) update.

I am trying to see if (1) I can get the Auto Start working and (2) I can disable the Update Service.

I will post back on my trials and to see if anyone else has a working solution.

you can also add a command to start Cumulus into the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

this will run an entry each time windows is started.

There seems to be some administrative restrictions on running Cumulus MX. Still trying to find time to properly trouble shoot.

OK, I finally got CumulusMX to Run on Startup.
Here are the steps and settings.
I found that if I run CumulusMX from the desktop, it opens a command window and runs. However, when run from the Task Scheduler the only way to see if it is running is to look at the status in the Task Schedule list or in the Task Manager background processes.
Task Scheduler: Create Task
General: Add name, run with highest privileges
1-gen.PNG
Triggers: At startup with a delay
2-trig.PNG
2a-trig edit.PNG
Actions: Start program, path to program, you MUST add "start in" path so CumulusMX can find the config file.
3-Actions.PNG
3a-action edit.PNG
Conditions: Nothing to set here
4-cond.PNG
Settings: I allowed run on demand so I can test that it runs
5-set.PNG
