Re: weather connection
Andrew - dont worry about leaving your PC on. I have had mine switched on for years. Its the only way to keep the weather data live and current. All depends on how keen you are !! I know with increasing fuel costs many people are switching off everything, but it will only save you a few pence per day ( but dont quote me on that )andrew wrote:so how come some people can send there date to weather underground 24/7

Ah, but those pennies add up
I've started turning mine off overnight, saves me 20p per day, that's over £70 a year.

A few pence doesn't fit my profile unfortunately...
With multiple servers in my home office, I use quite a bit of power along with the other stuff... then there is cooling... During the Summer, my office runs about 85°F and needs air conditioning to keep it there. After we start to cools (just had a streak of 3 days) it dips in the 70's with the use of outside air and fans. So cooling is a power eater as well. I never need to use "Heat" as all I need to do is close the office window.
The only thing that gets turned off when I'm not using it is my notebook.

I know the feeling, three main machines. My Firewall, My Server/WX machine, my main Workstation all 24 x 7 add to that my Cumulus notebook now, plus a couple of AP's some UPS's Switches and routers.TNETWeather wrote:

Then there is the two notebooks in the lounge and Her Indoors Who Must Be obeyed has a PC in her room but they are not 24x7.
