Alternatives to WH1080

Post by cats_five »

I'm having all sorts of spider-related problems with the rain gauge on my WH1080.

Are the rain gauges on any other weather stations more resistant to the problem? It's taken since 6th September for a new rain gauge to get so sticky with (presumably) spider web it's not working again. :x

Thought about spraying some surface spray around the area, like that professional outdoor stuff that lasts 6 months??

Might help........

Not sure what you mean by 'surface spray'. Could you give a brand name for example, please?

something like these.

You could spray the surfaces around the station, not sure if you can spray the actual station....

Many different brands, some that last 3 months - 12 months. Might be best to find a waterproof one...

Of course, this is just an idea....
My station it bolted to my pergola and if i were having the same issue, i would spray around the area under the pergola and around the station it's self..

If you do a forum search on 'spiders', you will find what others have tried. For me, I glued a piece of what they use as fly netting on ventilator grills right across the bottom of my Fine Offset rain gauge covering every hole and the spiders have never got in again although they are much in evident on everything else in the garden.

Don't they get in through the hole on the top the rain goes in via?
