Re: Alternative CumulusMX Interface

Post by PaulMy »

Hi,
I had downloaded about a week ago but just now trying to run the ai-cmx interface as localhost:8998/ai.cmx or 192.168.0.212:8998/ai.cmx.
I think I've done what is needed but get a 404 - File Not Found. Doing a View Source gets

Code: Select all

<html><head></head><body><h1>404 - Not Found</h1></body></html>
Then a <F12> IE DevTools shows a

Code: Select all

index.html:1 Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found)
The same result if I go to the other .html files i.e. localhost:8998/ai.cmx/ index.html or gauges.html, etc.

I've tried it on two separate CMX installs and the same result.
The original interface works fine as localhost:8998 or 192.168.0.212:8998
Something obvious I've missed? Any suggestions?

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi

Try putting a trailing forward slash at the end of the address: I.e., localhost:8998/ai.cmx/

If you miss the trailing slash you are not changing to that subdirectory and all the calls to stylesheets, javascript etc, cannot be found.

Hi Neil, and thanks for reply.
Yes I have tried on the desktop PC where CumulusMX is installed with and without / http://192.168.0.212:8998/ai.cmx/ and http://192.168.0.212:8998/ai.cmx
I have tried starting with localhost:8998 and 192.168.0.212:8998 which work as the default interface, and then add /ai.cmx/ as well as a new browser and localhost:8998/ai.cmx and 192.168.0.212:8998/ai.cmx/
The same on the second CMX localhost:8999/ai.cmx/

Also the same on another laptop computer using 192.168.0.212:8998/ai.cmx/

Enjoy,
Paul

Thanks Paul

I can only think it might be to do with the Browser - I have only checked on a Safari browser so I will do some investigation and get back to you.

A quick solution would be to add '/ai.cmx/' to all the links and src paths that don't have an initial '/'. Basically the link references for all the styles in the 'styles' section and 'src' references for all the scripts in the 'page scripts' section.

Thanks again Neil,
I've just tried in Firefox and Chrome and the same 404 error.
I presume it can't be a hosting issue - i.e. GoDaddy (which has given me some periodic trouble), as the interface is just on the local PC.

Enjoy,

No Paul

Nothing to do with GoDaddy as it, as you say, the wether Interface is should be hosted locally and the addresses you have used are all on your local machine.

Try my fix on the index.html page - add

Code: Select all

/ai.cmx/
infant of the styles - they all start css/ and infant of the javascript links immediately below them. If this works, I can put together a new download for all pages that will fix the problem if this workaround works.

Hi Neil,
I had typed a new response of success but seems to have gone in the new blue yonder...

A big blunder on my part... I read the Installing the AI - "i. Download and extract ai.cmx-latest.zip.... Do NOT extract directly in the CumulusMX/interface folder" so I installed in \CumulusMX\ai.cmx :bash: :bash:
Now a new reading of Installing and read the second line  and installed in \CumulusMX\interface\ai.cmx\ and all is displaying fine

Looks good!

Enjoy,

Well, Neil if you want feedback I can tell you that I prefer the ai simply because it gives brighter colours which I prefer (I have never been on the dark side).
Not all colours are great but the palette are different and that is refreshing. No doubt once a painter gets the hang of it other palettes will appear. Functionally the interface does not differ much which is fine. Don't mix-up the menu's too much, we might get lost...

Thanks Neil, yes all good and easy to follow.
Colour (theme) choices are nice to have but some of the included are very difficult for me to see. I've picked about 4 that look nice and good for me, and a black may be something to try. I won't give up the black original just yet and can still have it in one of my 3 CMX ;)

Look forward to seeing v2...

Hi there
I have just downloaded and installed this alternative and it works just fine out of the box. I think the easy ability to alter the colours is great.

One fault I found was that the temperature gauge is very sluggish with the dew and feels like needing some coaxing to reflect a current temperature.

The removal of the Configuration button by deleting the appropriate coding in the main menu file was easy.

I look forward to seeing v2 in due course.

Keep up the great work

Update to Alternative CumulusMX Interface

Post by NeilThomas »

Hi all

Just to let you know that I have updated the latest Alternative Interface upload to address an issue with the MySQLSettings page. I omitted the code to actually create the required database tables. So please upload the version below:
ai-cmx-latest.zip
A completely revised Alternative Interface will shortly be released that uses Flex Containers. Flex containers are useful because they allow you to re-order any containers inside them without having to copy and paste blocks of code in the html files. Each container inside a flex container has an 'order' property. Change the number and the container will be re-arranged. They are also better at adjusting to different width screens.

Alternative CumulusMX Interface V2

Post by NeilThomas »

Hi all

This is a re-post of the Version 1 AI-CMX
ai.cmx.zip
while I investigate some issues[/b].

The main focus has been to use flex containers where appropriate to make the display more flexible. I have also merged the Diary Editor and Current Conditions editor pages. (The original pages are still available - full details in the included pdf file).

OK. Installed but there seems to be something (css?) missing.
