I noticed today that from looking at the data on https://www.pwsweather.com/obs/RADILLY.html for my PWS - that CMX stopped uploading data about 5 days ago - 30 May about midday. CMX had been up for a little over 11 days ... so about half way through the period.

I turned data logging on (after confirming that PWS Weather was enabled) and found that from the log, CMX thought it was uploading.

First time I've observed a problem since starting uploads to the site in January. I just did a reboot of the Pi, which starts Cumulus via systemctl and it seems to be working as expected. Not sure what happened.

In case you run into this... ;)

PWSWeather is generally very reliable to upload to but recently have seen periodic missed uploads from my WiFiLogger setup http://www.pwsweather.com/obs/KOMOKA2.html - this is not Cumulus (my Cumulus 1 uploads are still very reliable http://www.pwsweather.com/obs/KOMOKA.html ). However these missed periods are usually in the 20 to 45 minute time periods when the uploads start again, and not a total stoppage. I was told these missed uploads are caused at PWS end and likely not the issue you had.

Hey Simon-
WU continues to be a problem for me too. I'm still uploading there, but my webcam hasn't worked in months and CMX goes through long stretches of the System.Net.WebConnection... exceptions. The past few days I've seen quite a few ... but uploads mostly work. I've seen the flurry of activity on the Trello board of late. I spent a chunk of my career at IBM, and I do feel for the folks trying to patch up WU.

BTW - Partly because of WU, I've been working on moving webcam images to a Pi. My old, inexpensive webcam just ftp's images. At one time WU would make nice time-lapse videos. I had been tinkering with that on my hosted server but discovered recently ffmpeg takes good advantage of the Pi hardware in creating an mp4. I expect in the next week or so I'll move the archival and processing to a Pi. Looks like a far more reliable solution for images.

For about a decade or so, I've been posting to WU (and have relocated once changing my station), and most of the time my own site. Around December '17 it was becoming pretty clear WU wasn't reliable, so I turn on posting to several other sites. None work perfectly, but WU is the least reliable this year.

Cheers!

Paul!
Based on 1 data point I can't say for certain that it was CMX at all. PWS had gotten no data for about a week, while CMX had been up steady for 2. Because CMX starts automatically, I just rebooted the Pi and data has been getting to PWS since without issue. I have had some local network issues last month but the other sites were only minimally affected. So I thought it likely CMX or the Pi.

Because its an area of interest, I'm been building up a "watchdog" running on the Pi. It monitors the Pi, a webcam, and the hosted server to some degree. I've learning Python in the process and use urllib to fetch some small data files. In retrospect it would have been interesting to try it on the PWS Weather page when it was showing the station down. I hadn't thought until just now about periodically checking the sites I report to. Interesting idea to play with - :geek:

Thanks!
Bob

Some of you folks have some great sites - I've not found the time or motivation to work on that side of things...

I can report that for me both PWS and WU Rapid Fire uploads from a Pi Zero W running Cumulus MX have been working fine in recent weeks/months.
The Pi also grabs images from an IP camera and uploads them to WU every few minutes. No problems with that either, except when my camera fails and needs a reboot.
I've never really had trouble with PWS, and WU has been stable since they reversed their decision to close late in 2017.

I would suggest you use crontab on the Pi to do a 'sudo reboot' in the early hours each morning, or more often if you like. That'll help keep things clean and sort them out if a problem occurs.
