Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Changing Weather Station

Post by stephenmh »

Hi all.

After so many issues and lockups using the WS3083 and Pi2, I decided to try my old WH1081 until I can purchase an alternative brand.

I cleared all the data out of the WH1081 memory and used the daily backup from Cumulus MX to restore my data to remove corrupt data from the last lockup. I also changed the station type as I no longer have solar sensors.

The issue I have is that when I start cumulus, it shows yesterday's rainfall as 790mm! This also affects highest rainfall, monthly, yearly and record stats etc. Does anyone have any idea where it is picking this up from it how I can avoid it please?

Thanks in advance, Steve.

Hi Freddie. Thanks for the link. I was wondering if I was missing something obvious though? As I'm using MX, I presume I would have to correct the files manually so wanted to try to avoid that if possible :(

The only editor currently available in MX is for today's rain, so for any other adjustment you do need to stop MX and edit the file(s) manually.

Hi all.

After so many issues and lockups using the WS3083 and Pi2,....
Deja vu. I have just done the same with my WH3083. Too many lockups with the Pi and it seems to eat Duracell Power Plus AAs as if they are going out of fashion - and the temp/humidity and power module is mounted some 5m up so that I could get the anemometer at 9m above ground. I have swapped it out for an Oregon WMR88 an the anemometer can (and will) be power assisted - possible by an external power supply rather than the recommended solar cell.

I have literally just come down from the ladder to put the anemometer temporarily on the mast - will finish off tomorrow as it's trying to rain and I'm supposed to getting ready to go out :D

I store all the data on SQL database - so an hour or so to tidy it up. The web pages will have to be done also. Will miss the solar values but he WMR88 does have UV Index sensor - which seems to be less prone to over reading than the WS3083 model. Still using the VantageVue as the main system - the Oregon is more of a plaything!

Thanks for the responses.

I manually edited the files, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be ;)

Philpugh, as you say, I will miss the solar data but hopefully I will be able to get another station soon. I want to steer clear of the Fine Offset models in case of compatibility issues though.

Do you use the Vantage Vue with a Pi as that's what I was thinking of getting next?

The Vantage Vue is connected to a BananaPi as I use a small SSD to run the s/w and the database. The BPi comes with an SSD port. It runs Debian in headless mode.
