The future of Cumulus?

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

The future of Cumulus?

Post by SysRq »

I really appreciate all the effort you've put into this project; but...:
The future of Cumulus as I see it is either:
1. Open source it
2. Release more often
3. It dies

1. Why, when Steve has put so much of his life into it? Open sourcing muddies the water. It's good for web software/apps, but for legacy apps no.
2. The beta version have been getting updates pretty regularly.
3. Not if pointless posts like this one stop.

Just my opinion.

I would say that the future is bright. I doubt it would die.

Oh and 4 - you don't have to use it!

A lot of software only gets one or two updates a year, have you stopped to count how many MX releases there have been just this year - I think not.

While many of us continue to thank Steve regularly for all his hard work.

I'm told the best way of getting rid of a troll is to starve it to death.
They soon move on when you don't leave out anything for it to eat. ;)

I'm not a troll, as I said I appreciate the effort and work, and it's free which is always nice.
All I want is to get weather data from my station into my computer to do whatever I want with, e.g. input to home automation.
Now that I tried Cumulus I might move on to an alternative, or if nothing fits my need I'll write it myself.

Please let us know if you write something, it might be useful for others and I do assume that it will be open source?
