CumulusMX configuration page won't load

Post by popsicleorama »

Moving from a Windows XP install with 1.9.4 to cumulusMX on a raspberry pi

when I start CumulusMX and I go to localhost:8998 (or direct IP) I receive what looks to be the documentation for Responsive DataTables and cannot get to any configuration screens (regardless if remote or local to the raspberryPI)

Responsive example Responsive DataTables

Basic initialisation

Class name

ETC.....

the cumulusMX.exe is running (I had copied my old settings and got the same issue, but this is a clean install, formatted memory card)

Current culture: English (United States)
Serial: DE7653C9D6720541139E4B698BC4BEAB

(Replace * with any IP address on this machine, or localhost)
Starting web socket server on port 8002

Type Ctrl-C to terminate

I have a clean raspberian image with almost nothing else loaded

That's very odd - what happens if you explicitly supply a page, e.g. http://<ip address>:8998/index.html or http://<ip address>:8998/charts.html?

Index.html still returns the "responsive" page

the stationsettings.html does work and allows changes to the .ini file.

I set it to Fine Offset and restarted CumulusMX and it cannot find the station

The Dashboard link points to Index.html so that does not work. The other tabs come up but have no data

as a test chmod -R 777 the CumulusMX folder and no changes

I tried changing the port to other random ones and no change to behavior.

I also removed all of the CumulusMX files and folders and redownloaded the file from the forum, that did not change the behavior, still have issues with Fine Offset and Index.html

Re: CumulusMX configuration page won't load

I have no idea where that DataTables page is coming from, the index.html page doesn't even use DataTables. If you use the F12 developer console in your browser, or better still Fiddler, you should be able to see what happens when you request the page. What browser are you using when you try it from Windows? That page looks like a cut-down version of a page for a mobile browser, or some other 'limited' browser.

This won't be any use if the station can't be detected, though. What model of Raspberry Pi is it? What version of Raspbian are you using, and what version of Mono? Do you have the mono-complete package installed? Do you have libudev0 installed?

Maybe CTRL+F5 in your Webbrowser forces a cache refresh, and will guarantee that if the content is changed, you will get the new content.
Try it.

Can you SSH to your RPi2 (guessing you are using an RPi2 rather than an RPi eh?) and type:

uname -a

mono -V

and copy and post what you see here.

Is there a way to be able to test your set up without the WLAN dongle attached?

I mean using the built in NIC on the RPi2 rather than the WLAN for a bit of time.

BTW here mostly use Firefox on Windows and Linux. I am playing a bit with the Edge browser (V20.XXX) on Windows 10 and CumulusMX looks fine there too.

Okay I tried one more time to do a clean rasbian image install and this time it doesn't have the "responsive tables" page, so success there, but still no explanation of why it was happening. The browser that was used in the screenshot is chrome on windows 7 with the bookmarks bar turned off and the image cropped

I also tried on the native epiphany browser on the PI, Edge on windows 10, chrome on windows 10 and IE 11 on windows 7

didn't make a difference previously (also on different machines with different users) I actually reflexively don't use anything else because I have had bad experiences with cached content on pages

Tested removing wifi and restarting, this did allow the Fine Offset station to be found on Cumulus start up and it looks like things are working, based on other forum topics it sounds like I may need a powered hub. Also looks like taking the old windows cumulus install and copying the cumulusMX over it is properly importing history

So it is now working - the MX UI pages appear in your browser?

You will probably need to use a powered hub, yes, particularly if you have other USB devices connected.

Googling this morning relating to the RPi2 and USB WLAN sticks.

I saw that typically the USB WLAN stick use 200-500mA's of power.

And that the max USB draw supported by the RPi2 is 100mA.

Note this was a quick check only. I have not personally tested this.

If you want you can just plug in your WLAN USB stick to a Wintel computer, enable it and see the mA draw from it.

BTW don't buy an "el cheapo" powered USB hub as sometimes the voltage goes back to the source port. I have personally seen this. Here I use Digi Hubs.

There are plenty of good quality USB powered hubs out there in internetlandia.

Mono JIT compiler version 3.2.8 (Debian 3.2.8+dfsg-4+rpi1)
.... and maybe this also could be a good advise, reading this forum post https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13587
