Moon Phases

From build 3044 the development baton passed to Mark Crossley. Mark has been responsible for all the Builds since. He has made the code available on GitHub. It is Mark's hope that others will join in this development, but at the very least he welcomes your ideas for future developments (see Cumulus MX Development suggestions).

Cached page renewed from the new code? Always best to do an F12 and clear the cache with the developer tools.

I'm still getting full moon on CumulusMX and the pictures changed to waning gibbous? shouldn't it change when CumulusMX changes?

I have updated the moon phase code to bring it into line with Cumulus MX 3046. The zip file is available here viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13902&p=110751#p110751

In the zip file there is a word doc with instructions or are you saying they do not work?

Thanks for the reply. The line that the instructions say I need to change is not in the index file unless I have not seen it. Whereabouts would I insert the modified line?

Code: Select all

Now you must edit indexT.htm in your HTML editor of choice.
It is this line. For Cumulus web sites you must always update the Template file (xxxxxxxxxxT.htm) so that Cumulus can then process the file and substitute the weather readings into the appropriate place and then update it. If you directly up date index.htm no substitutions can be made.

Thanks for this. Just one little problem for us living nearer the south pole than the north pole - the graphic is for the northern hemisphere. A quick look at moonphase.php seems to show identical code for both hemispheres. For the south, it just needs a few little changes - an "s" prefixed to the appropriate file names.

OK moon phase images updated to correctly reflect the Southern Hemisphere (needed to be reversed AND inverted) and additional Southern Hemisphere New and Full Moon added.

New code as always at viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13902#p110751

OK I noticed that my moonphase image was slightly out of sync with the <#moonphase> web tag.

It turns out the code in CumulusMx that produces that tag has been slightly tweaked since I last updated this in 2019, so I have updated my code to reflect the CumulusMX changes.

For those of you that use my code to produce that image (I think a few of you use it as CumulusMX does not do this as standard) I have updated it and it is now correct.

New code as always at viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13902#p110751

Since the moon phase picture is now standard in Cumulus MX, I do not propose to update this code any longer unless specifically asked to do so.
