Hi all,

when running command ./cumulusmx.sh -s I'm getting in ip address inet and at the top I'm getting an error sayinginet: forward host lookup failed host name lookup failure : resource temporarily unavailable

any ideas all nameservers and resolving dns time.

Sorry for answering late
In your screenshot I can see, that you NOT using the most current version of my script.....however, also in the most current version I assuem, you will get this error ?
I can see, that it is when I grep for soemthing like "inet" and the error occurs in line 620
Since you are using an older version which is NOT visible in your screenshot, I am not able to find out the correct version to look at line 620

which version of the cumulusmx.sh script are you running ?
jan

Hello Peter
as far as I can see, I am checking the scriptz version versus version online in line 620
And as far as I remember, there were changes on the Cumulus Website with the result, that my command could not find the latest Cumulus Version online.
So I updated my script to get the correct value.

PLease update the Script to the most current version and check again.
You are on 2.5.2.2 - current version is 2.5.4.0 !

Reading the release info omn the first page of this post:

Version 2.5.2.2: [02.09.2016] - Fixed Version check for CumulusMX because changes on the Cumulus Webpages were made.
Version 2.5.3.0: [27.09.2016] - Added Parameter -w (watchdog). In case CumulusMX can not be started with the init.d script, create a cron entry which is starting CumulusMX every 10 minutes. In case it is already running, nothing happens. If not running, it will be startet
Version 2.5.3.1: [21.01.2017] - fixed CumulusMX version check since Steve modified the Forum website
Version 2.5.4.0: [21.02.2017] - fixed a problem with the init.d script when CumulusMX is installed on a USB Drive. CumulusMX could not be started at system boot. This version fixed this problem. Please read Forum post for more information.

Updated to the latest release and still saying cant listen on 8998 and http://inet:8998 any suggestions please?

when i do nslookup it only does reverse lookups and no forward lookups only when i do localhost.

i run 2 dns servers locally on vmware as test machines.shouldnt make a difference if its hosted on vmware.

That error typically returns when you don't have a DNS server configured.

can you do the following in your SSH session?

first, ping the network.

ping mit.edu

show the results but...

....if that fails, then how about the contents of:

more /etc/hosts

If that has content, then how about:

more /etc/resolv.conf

Hello Richard

the first problem seem to be easy to solve.....
Network Interface: eth0 - IP Address: inet - Netmask:inet
This is a result of a simple query to get your IP address and your netmask.
In the first step, I query your interface. On a raspberrypi it is almost eth0
The next query is to get the ip address of eth0.
My script is using this command: ifconfig eth0 | grep 'inet ' | cut -d: -f2 | awk '{ print $1}'
The command: ifconfig eth0 is giving a complete line and I am "cutting" the releavant information fomr this line.

So please insert these commands:
a) ifconfig eth0 | grep 'inet ' | cut -d: -f2 | awk '{ print $1}'
b) ifconfig eth0 | grep 'inet '
PLease paster the result in your answer, but NOT as a screenshot....please use copy and paste....I need to find out, why your OS is replying with a format other then expected.
So I assume, your are NOT running CumulusMX on a Raspberry Pi ?

ifconfig eth0 | grep 'inet ' | cut -d: -f2 | awk '{ print $1}'
inet
ifconfig eth0 | grep 'inet '
inet 192.168.1.4 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255

I'm using Debian Stretch 9.0 inside vmware esxi 6.5

you think its not detecting the drivers why it's displaying inet?
