    Hello Richard.....

    good to hear that the problem solved now....but I am a little bit confused..

    root@homebase2:~# cat /etc/*-release
    PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)"
    NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux"
    VERSION_ID="10"
    VERSION="10 (buster)"
    VERSION_CODENAME=buster
    ID=raspbian
    ID_LIKE=debian
    HOME_URL="http://www.raspbian.org/"
    SUPPORT_URL="http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianForums"
    BUG_REPORT_URL="http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianBugs"
    root@homebase2:~# nc -4 -z 192.168.193.9 443;echo $?
    0

    unfortunatly, I don't have a VMWARE debian 10 here, but I think there is no difference between a "real" debian 10 or a raspbian based on debian 10 and the above comnad should work everywhere .....

    aynway....it's solved ......

    Here is a nc -h after I installed netcat on my Debian Linux subsystem for Windows...

    Code: Select all

    :~# nc -h
    [v1.10-41.1]
    connect to somewhere: nc [-options] hostname port[s] [ports] ...
    listen for inbound: nc -l -p port [-options] [hostname] [port]
    options:
            -c shell commands as `-e'; use /bin/sh to exec [dangerous!!]
            -e filename program to exec after connect [dangerous!!]
            -b                      allow broadcasts
            -g gateway              source-routing hop point[s], up to 8
            -G num                  source-routing pointer: 4, 8, 12, ...
            -h                      this cruft
            -i secs delay interval for lines sent, ports scanned
            -k set keepalive option on socket
            -l listen mode, for inbound connects
            -n numeric-only IP addresses, no DNS
            -o file hex dump of traffic
            -p port                 local port number
            -r randomize local and remote ports
            -q secs quit after EOF on stdin and delay of secs
            -s addr                 local source address
            -T tos set Type Of Service
            -t                      answer TELNET negotiation
            -u                      UDP mode
            -v verbose [use twice to be more verbose]
            -w secs timeout for connects and final net reads
            -C                      Send CRLF as line-ending
            -z zero-I/O mode [used for scanning]
    port numbers can be individual or ranges: lo-hi [inclusive];
    hyphens in port names must be backslash escaped (e.g. 'ftp\-data').
    No -4 option.

    OKay, got it.
    Debian running on a Windows Box as a win subsystem is not knowing about the -4 (which means: only IPV4) command
    running on a "real" debian will work

    kind regards

    Well, Richard is running a "real" Debian distro has he is running it in a VM rather than as subsystem, and I just did an "apt install netcat" to get the nc command installed, and that goes to the Debian repositories (not the Raspbian).

    Ah, you have to install the OpenBSD version to get IPv6 support "apt install netcat-openbsd"

    Hello Marc, thank you for the advice, that raspbian is not the real debian.
    I am also not aware that there is a difference between the raspian (Buster) and debian buster.
    Anyway, Richard wrote, that it is suddenly working for him.
    And thank you also for the Hint with netcat - openbsd
