In the last week or so, I have had two occurrences of my Davis USB connection being disconnected and reconnected; it seems the ethernet port does the same. MX gets an exception and stops reading data. When the USB device gets reconnected, it has a different name, so after I've 'rewound', I also have to change the serial port name in the config. It went from ttyUSB0 to ttyUSB1 the first time, and this time it went back to ttyUSB0. Any thoughts on why this happens? I'll look at making MX handle this a bit better, but catering for the device changing name is somewhat problematic.

Re: Raspberry Pi USB device disconnects
According to the schematics for the RPi model B, the cpu has one usb port which is connected to the ethernet controller, and the ethernet controller have a two port usb hub built-in.
On the RPi2 the ethernet controller has a four port usb hub built-in.
So loosing both ethernet and communication, might indicate a driver problem for the hub or the connected devices. (whether station)
The driver for the usb to RS232 serial converter CP210x is not known to be "the best in class".
A quick google search gave me this http://community.silabs.com/t5/Interfac ... d-p/138882, which is from 2015.
Are the drivers up-to-date? Maybe newer drivers can be downloaded directly from Silicon Labs and Microchip.

Re: Raspberry Pi USB device disconnects
Are you using a USB Powered Hub? I read on a few pi forums that that's the prefered method of plugging in USB devices as the USB devices are unstable.
Also, what's the amperage on the power adapter you're using? Most also recommend using a 2amp 5v adapter if you're running USB devices, although the device will run on 1amp.
I've had no problems with my RaspPi B+ and RaspPi 2.0 B running Cumulus with my Fine Offset connected via USB, and for a time I had it running a USB WiFi adapter before I ran ethernet to it, no issues. Using a 2amp adapter and no powered hub.

Re: Raspberry Pi USB device disconnects
Yes, I keep telling other people that, but I'm not actually doing it myself - not on the Pi2 anyway. I have a USB HD and the station connected directly to the Pi2 USB ports, but I do have a good quality 2A PSU, and I have set 'usb_max_current=1' in /boot/config.txt. If the issue persists, I'll try attaching a hub.WoodburyMan wrote:Are you using a USB Powered Hub? Re: Raspberry Pi USB device disconnects
I recently bought a usb ssd drive that i have directly plugged in the Rpi B+ usb.
From time to time (2 or 3days) the Rpi loose the usb drive (no more sda1 in /dev. The Wiwi usb dongle still works.
After a reboot i can mount the drive again and restart Cmx.
Should i use a powered hub ?

Re: Raspberry Pi USB device disconnects
It's worth trying, perhaps the B+ can't supply sufficient power.
