Cumulus MX Not Running

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Cumulus MX Not Running

Post by woolfg »

Hi Steve

I only came across the fact that there was a new version of Cumulus last week so am a bit behind on development / issues etc so I apologise in advance if this has been covered before although I have had a quick look through the FAQ etc

I have downloaded the latest MX build (3013) but it won't run on my PC . I have attached the file from the diags directory.

I am running Windows 8.1 64 bit but I also run Cumulus with a USB to Serial Converter as I don't have any serial ports on my PC

Regards

Graham

It's running, but you closed it while it was still working its way through the contents of the logger.

But you do have this issue:

System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (0x80004005): Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted

Are you running it as administrator?

Someone else had the same error message - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13118

Unfortunately they didn't answer the questions that I asked, and if they found a resolution, they didn't say so in the thread.

Hi Steve

I have two network adapters on my PC plus one USB to Ethernet adapter . I use these because I run the Eumetcast satellite data system

I'm not a network expert so I'm not sure what the solution is - the original Cumulus works fine

It appears that the web socket library that I'm using also tries to open port 843 for "some type of Flash cross-domain stuff", and you already have something listening on that port. There is an option to turn this off; I'll do it in the next build.

Hi Steve

I have downloaded the latest build and am running it but nothing seems to happen

I have a cmd window open - see screenshot attached and have also attached the diag file

How long should I leave it before something appears

Regards

Graham

PS I have left it running for 15 minutes but still nothing apart from the cmd window

You need to go to the settings interface in your browser to set the station type etc as described in the instructions.

In the main announcement post for Cumulus MX - https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=12908 - which contains the instructions, it says:

"When Cumulus starts, it will display the URL of the user interface. It runs on port 8998 by default"

and then

"Type the URL which is displayed into your browser (substituting the * for the IP address, or use localhost) and the interface should appear. If this is a 'clean' installation, the first thing you will need to do is to go to the settings and set the station type and units, and any other configuration settings you want to make. Having set the station type, you will need stop Cumulus MX and start it again."

Thanks Steve and Mark

Its all working now . I didn't appreciate the fact that it worked in a browser window. I was expecting a Windows application like the old Cumulus
