Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Extra files

Post by Adrian Hudson »

Is there meant to be a save button on the Extra Files page? I don't have one.
If I make changes to this page the ini file is not updated and if I refresh the web page the changes are lost.

Ahh. In the absence of a save button I pressed the forward button which I assumed would save - like most forward backward buttons do when updating a database. Enter works. Thanks.

Yes, the javascript component it uses works by updating the server every time anything gets changed.

Well, it just doesn't work for me.

I created Extra{xxxx}11 settings manually and started cumulus, refreshed the extra files web page and the entries were shown. I clicked in one of the file names and changed it and pressed ENTER. The changes were not reflected in the ini file. If I pressed refresh the changes I made were redisplayed, however if I ended cumulus and restarted it and pressed refresh in the browser the changes disappeared.

Next I tried deleting my Extraxxxx11 entries by clicking in one of the file names. I received a little X at the end which I pressed to clear the entry field (Only IE gives the X in the end of an entry field to clear it, Chrome does not). I repeated this for the other file name and turned off all the checkboxes on that line. No change was reflected in the ini file - although the date and time of the ini file changed - I could find no change made in the file.

I tried adding a new file to be FTPed using the browser. Pressed enter after each file name filled in. No changes in the ini file.

I repeated all the above in both Chrome and IE11.

Can you confirm that your Cumulus.ini file has the relevant section as [FTP site] with a lower case 's' and that you only have one such section in the file?

I'm baffled, then, as it works for me and apparently for others. Presumably there are no errors in the diags file? I think that's unlikely as it's writing the ini file. Have a look in the developer console to see what the data looks like when it calls the server to update a field.

No errors in diags, no. In fact it says it is "Writing Cumulus.ini file" and indeed it seems to write something to the file as the timestamp of the file changes, but there is no evidence of anything being actually written! I may try a fresh installation tomorrow.

The contents of the http call would be useful. But I can put some logging into the code anyway.

I would be happy to provide this but I don't know how. I have spent some time clicking around in the chrome console but not sure what you want.

Go to the page then open the console. Select 'network'. Change something on the interface and a call to updateextrawebfiles.html should appear in the console. Click on that in the leftmost column. Scroll down to see the form data. You should be able to work out whether what you see corresponds to what you did (the 'id' is the row in the table).

Thanks Steve, here is the output. Looks okay to me. The timestamp on Cumulus.ini changed but nothing written to the file that I can see (test.txt is in the 11th slot (numbered from 0)) but no entries in the FTP site section (or anywhere else for that matter).

Did you only have extra files from 0 to 10 previously? Does the interface work if you modify one of those? I wonder if the issue is with creating new entries in Cumulus.ini.
