Smokey Bear Fire forecaster

Hi,

Someone told me about Chandler Burning Index earlier this year, so I've checked
what this is about and found that there is some fire risk system available: CBI, FWI,
Angstrom, etc. Then I've done a little draft,

see: http://weatherbyyou.com/demo/weather_su ... Danger.php

Comments are welcome! :D

Regards,
Jacques

Jacques,
That's great idea I think. This is something directly related to the weather and useful for almost every weather station (maybe except of those located in Alaska and Greenland :) ).
Best Regards,
Piotr

Hi Jacques
any possibility that you can add an explanation to this
FFMC DMC DC ISI BUI FWI CBI

Maybe some small question mark that guides you to some page that contains a short explanation of it.

Regards
Kenneth

Hi Kenneth,

For sure, there will be a complete explanation page.
This module will be made of 2 parts; 1st the "sticker"
to display only essential and when visitors will click on "sticker"
they will be redirected to this "detailed" page with graphs,
tables and explanation needed!

Regards,
Jacques

Hi Jacques,
Sorry for asking you this question (it's a vacation time and probably you may have a lot much more important thinks to do) but: Do you have any idea of when the final version will be available?
I'm not living in Alaska (not in Greenland either) and it would be useful to have it before the first snowfall.

Best Regards,
Piotr

Let me just add I'm interested also as I live in an area that has had many forest fires this season (Colorado) :( plus those in surrounding states of New Mexico, Arizona, etc... I'm sure would also be interested. ;)

Cheers,

Hi Beau,

With summer, projects are taking the "slow" road! 8-)
(and since I work in a school, september is pretty buzzy)
I've worked a lot on this project, but it become much complex too!

As you can see on this link, a configuration page is added. It give some "Fire historic"
by reading monthly file supplied, so no site will have an empty graph or table view
for its "Day 1".

You could try with your own month file on this link:
http://weatherbyyou.com/demo/weather_su ... Config.php

I'm now on "numbers validation" to be sure that Fire forecasts will be accurate!
This module will be a 5-in-1 enhancement with its:
- 3 different "Fire Sticker" (2 small and 1 medium size) to choose from
- 1 standard page with big Smockey images and graphs
- 1 explanation page with a lot of information on index and Fire Risk calculations
... Without forgetting installation/configuration page I'm working on!

But, I've readed a lot of "scientific stuff" about these indexes and found that they produce forecasts
at noon, as the warmest time of the day! But, on my site, noon is rarely the hottest moment of the day...
its around 4pm instead. So, I think about producing 2 forecasts (demo page show them):
- Forecast at official "noon time"
- Forecast at the hottest moment of the day, so far.

Then, as you see, work on its road, but some choixes still to do!

Best regards,
Jacques

Hi,

I've validated indexes and worked on Configuration page
to have something simple to run.

So, you could now try it with your own month file and
see what will compose that "Smokey Bear module".

When you visit this link: http://weatherbyyou.com/demo/weather_su ... Danger.php

Prototype will see no (Fire) data file, so will guide you to configuration.

I've tried to do something simple... so give it a try!

Jacques

Hi!

Smokey Bear project still to continue its development, probably my longest project! :|
Now, main Fire Danger page has a working "Danger sign" at top, with Fire Risk Index,
temp, humidity and consecutive days without rain.

Also, graph is in its near final status, with interactive control over the data
to select Hum, Temp, etc. and zoom in the period displayed. Finally, Legend
has been enhanced to show more informations.

Link: http://weatherbyyou.com/demo/weather_su ... Danger.php

Configuration page has been enhanced too, installations steps are now given
on how to "call" main FireDanger and all (3) Fire stickers available.
