I tried to modify a page in the eden template and remove the sidebar to put in a graph. However, I have a gap near the top of the main page area.

Sorry for answering so late, but I just today needed template page without the side-bar and started to search for solution.
What I did is (see attached picture):
1. In the file "eden.css" I added new section "#main1" just below the section "#main" (just copied the whole section "#main" and renamed it into "#main1).
2. In that new section changed the value of "with" into 960.
3. In the template (your will be "realtimepage.php") in the line containing <div id=main> I put "main1" instead "main".
Both files sent to the serwer.
The result You can see here: http://www.pogoda-niesiolowice.kaszuby.pl/timezones.php .
