Cloudbase CU script ex Bashewa

Post by BCJKiwi » Wed 01 May 2013 9:09 pm

OK here it is;
This is Ray's (Gemini07620) Ver 3.23beta modifications which are further changes to his previously published ver 3.15 and 3.23beta scripts on this forum.

The attached is a complete instal set with Ray's 3.23 script (cloudbaseORG.php) and the version seen on silveracorn.co.nz/weather (cloudbaseSA.php). Rename whichever you decide to run to cloudbase.php. The ...ORG ver does have a few changes from the ver 3.23 Ray supplied - mostly to some of the settings descriptions and the essential cloud height fix mentioned below.
The ....SA script has some minor mods and most of the settings used at silveracorn. These settings leave out a number of data display options that would repeat data that is elsewhere in ajax-dashboard.
Cloud height displays Above Ground Level (what you should see out the window) instead of ASL.
It also has an essential mod on line 1727 where the 'm' is lower case (else the cloud height scale is always 11000 metres!).

Please be aware that this script exhibits a 'split personality'.
1. Most of the data comes from realtime.txt and is therefore historic. However the cloud, wind, rain etc images are based on forecast data from METAR (as set) or the cumulus forecast. ## It seems I am in error in that the METAR is in fact also 'historic' whereas the TAF is a forecast. Perhaps that is why results seemed better with METAR than (Cumulus delivered) Davis forecast. ##
2. The original code was intended for use in ajax-dashboard or similar but has been adapted by others along the way so it could be run 'standalone' so there is additional code and settings relating to this which may not be expected.

Also note that the code used in ajax-dashboard by silveracorn to call this script is that described in the original cloudbase_readme.txt NOT in the later cloudbase setup.txt file provided by Ray.
A 'home' needs to be found to display 'cloudbase'. If replacing something else, adjustments will probably need to be made to the 'home' page default settings to accommodate the cloudbase image. This may not be trivial (it certainly was not for silveracorn!).

Ray,
Sorry to have upset you.

I also checked the email with the script you sent me and there was no request not to re-distribute.
If you want(ed) me to remove the script, you could ask (have asked) via email or pm.
If you want to penalise me then that is your prerogative but there is no call to penalise others by delaying any potential future release of an improved new non beta script.
So your post appears unwarranted.
No further discussion will be entered into on this matter.

Hi Brian,

I am using the cloudbase.php script for CU but it will not work.

I have copied over the 'cloudbase' folder over correctly and I've copied over the 'cloudbaseORG.php' file and rename it 'cloudbase.php' but no luck.

All I'm getting is a small icon when I try to access the file, here: http://newton-poppleford-weather.co.uk/cloudbase.php

Please can you help?

Thanks,

William

Same problem.

Where is it expecting the -webkit-user-select to be? re. the style of the embedded img? Updated-- oh, it's a Chrome thing.

Under Firefox/Waterfox it just displays the URL.

All tests (appear to) run fine btw.

OK,
As noted above, the script started life a long time back and developed into a WD/VWS/WU/WUHU package when last released by Bashewa.
Ray customised it for Cumulus and released it on this forum as ver 3.15. He later released ver 3.22 beta.
The version I posted was the next one along at ver 3.23.

So please work through the previous posts relating to the implementation of those earlier versions as any answers should be there as there were a number of post regarding implementation.

Release of ver 3.15 here and support queries following.
http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... .15#p48458

Further discussion on ver 3.15 and release of ver 3.22 (near the end of the thread). This contained only the php file as all the other files are the same as in 3.15
http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... se&start=0

You may even want to try one of those earlier versions.

Nope, after looking at both versions the same error still applies after the changing the station latitude and longitude and elevation.

Have incorporated it into a webpage...

http://jerbils.info/saratoga/wxtestit.php

..but still doesn't display (well, icon displays in a box of appropriate size) in Chrome.

In Firefox/Waterfox, no image displayed but at least you get the (changing) title.
e.g. Cloudbase @ 8058 feet (ASL)
..it displays in the appropriate size box which disappears and is then replaced with the (same) text.

In IE it stops prior to Waterfox with box displayed, x icon for image and e.g. Cloudbase @ 8073 feet (ASL) displayed at the top of the box.

With F12 in Chrome, it shows....
<img src="cloudbase.php?uom=I" alt="Cloud Base @ 7445 feet (ASL)" title="Cloud Base @ 7445 feet (ASL)" style="width: 100px; height: 200px; border: none;">

In web console Waterfox shows...
[15:12:13.582] Image corrupt or truncated: http://jerbils.info/saratoga/cloudbase.php?uom=I @ http://jerbils.info/saratoga/cloudbase.php?uom=I

With F12 in IE, it shows.....
<img title="Cloud Base @ 8703 feet (ASL)" style="width: 100px; height: 200px; border-top-color: currentColor; border-right-color: currentColor; border-bottom-color: currentColor; border-left-color: currentColor; border-top-width: medium; border-right-width: medium; border-bottom-width: medium; border-left-width: medium; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none;" alt="Cloud Base @ 8703 feet (ASL)" src="cloudbase.php?uom=I"/>

I'm quite willing to admit I may have done something wrong in the setup but I think the developer should come up with some suggestions as to what the problem is and not just "things you can look at and try". I've said before, all tests work fine.

BCJKiwi, Thank you for the modification. I have been testing the cloudbase CU script. I have it here:
http://pogodaslesin.byethost11.com/cloudbase.php

I noticed that there is problem with METAR conditions. Even if I put wrong code for station or code for very distant station the cloubase hight and the cloudbase terms are the same (don't change).
I looked for the METAR conditions for my closest statrion EPPO here http://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/poland.php?icao=EPPO and are not compatible.

Another easier issue is to wipe out the rain value.
Could you help me with that?

I am not sure which script version each of you is using - the ..SA script has all the settings I use (except lat/long/Metar). The ...ORG one has Rays defaults.

@ Will,
If you have tried 3.15, 3.22 and 3.23 and none work then it must be in your site setup somewhere.
See you currently have 3.15 installed.
Suggest you try the SA version and ensure the image files are in the correct path as shown in the script.

@ Gluepack,
I presume you will be using metric.
As advised previously the command line I use in ajax-dashboard is in the form of;
<img src="cloudbase.php" alt="cloudbase" width="100" height="200" />
You seem to be using something else as the error is showing uom=I which is for imperial and the height is in feet. However your station will be supplying (I presume) metric.
It also seems you have not changed any settings to your local lat/long or metar etc.
I see you also changed the images folder from cloudbase to ../images/ That may well be part of the issue as it probably should be ./images/ - only one leading '.' which means relative to the current location (of the script). The two '..' send the processing off to the very root of the website of the hosting system, not what you usually want.

You can also test the script using;
http://jerbils.info/saratoga/cloudbase.php
as the script is designed to run standalone as well.

@Mark14
It looks like you have sorted the rain question.
All the settings controlling what displays are in the section "BEGIN IMAGE DETAILS SETTINGS". I recommend you test them one setting at a time.
Cloudbase height comes from Cumulus, not Metar.

I've now tried the SA version and it worked and then as soon as I changed the timezone it went back to that little icon, again. Nothing in my site, so it must be your script that's faulty.

Will,
I put your tz into my running script and it works fine. I also remmed out the $SITE[ ]tz as well to ensure your tz was being used - still good.

Others also have this working so I suggest the issue is not with the script (which is not 'mine' anyway!)

I put the tz as "United Kingdom/London" is that correct?

@ Will
The default settings for lat/lng/tz & metar in the ...SA script posted in this thread are those used by Ray as defaults.

Have copied the file you have on your site and apart from the change to the tz, everything, as you say is unchanged.

If you check the note on line 269 under the section beginning at the line # OPTIONAL SETTINGS ....... you will find it makes it clear that if those $SITE[ ] items are set, they will override any settings above. So presuming you have tz, latitude and longitude set in Settings.php, it makes no difference what you put in lines 132, 132 & 134.

I have tested this with either set (not both) removed and everything still works. I have also changed the lat/long from north to south (with the $SITE[ ] settings removed) and the moon icon swaps over as it should.

So, it does not make much sense that just changing the tz setting at line 134 would have the effect you are seeing.

I am unable to replicate the problem you describe with the script running standalone or through my ajax-dashboard.

Well, for some reason. It does.

EDIT: Putting a new cloudbase.php file without changing any of the settings seems to work and as you said in your last post, it actually uses settings using the $SITE[ ] variable.
