Australian Warnings Advisory Alerts.

Post by BeaumarisWX »

Hi,

I've been working on a new way to display Australian Warnings from the B.O.M (Australian Bureau of Meteorology) and although I have it working now, it tends to hang slightly on page load.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in; http://hrvistaweather.com

1: Having a look and let me know how it loads and hopefully get some general feedback, to get an idea if I need to do more work on it or not.
2: If it does not cut the mustard (ie. too slow) would anyone be interested in seeing what else I can do to streamline it.

Basically: It's using rsslib.php and rss-direct.php to pull data from B.O.M RSS Feeds (.xml).

The rss-direct.php 's (one (1) for each State) are added to the top of my index.php using php include.
Each state is selected via radio button (all hidden on page load).

Then I'm using jquery to refresh the div which contains the included php 's.

Sorry - do not normally post in the forums, so hope the above is not too confusing.

p.s. Please note the Total Fire Ban below the Warnings is not part of the B.O.M rss (it is just manual entry as we are in fire mode here in Tassie).

regards

Seems OK to me here in Pommie land!! :D

The actual warnings pages in the side menus seem to take a while but they take the same time as the home page which might be just because I am half way around the world from you.

While I was looking at Warnings/Aus Tasmania noticed the page has a spelling mistake Oulook instead ot Outlook I assume, but me being picky!!

Very nice site a lot of work must have gone into that!!

Hi David,

Thanks for that matey - greatly appreciated.

The Host server is in the US even though I'm down here in Tassie - it's a dollar thing - so updates may be better for you than me :)

gee can not believe the Oulook error - that's been there for months - must have been a bad day writing that - usual proof as best I can.

Thank you for the kind words - I work but the site takes most of my spare time :)

regards

Tony

Looks like you are having a dry spell. Total fire ban for the 8th January!! We need to ship some rain your way, we have had so much it is just lying around and cannot go anywhere. No chance of a fire here, it would just splutter and die!!

Hi BCJKiwi,

Thanks for that - greatly appreciated - tried yours and seems to load quicker than mine ?? Go Figure !!

Hi Paul,

Thanks for that - Greatly appreciated - including your kind words.

MM no real negative feedback as yet - (made a slight mod) seems to load tiny bit quicker for me, so may elect to leave as is !!

Is it possible for you to help me out and get some QLD warnings on my website? I would only need some php code. I was looking for storm warning and extreme weather warning. Appreciate it if you could help out ... If not that's cool also :)

hi I have been programming the Australian fire danger rating algorithm for some time now. Look at my page here:
http://www.cablesat.com.au/shielphi
the algorithm works in real time and displays an image of the board.
let me know what you think.
