Website will not update

I have been having a strange problem which started a couple weeks ago. My website will NOT update. I get FTP errors when trying to update my sites at http://www.elgheko.us and http://mtp.elgheko.us. However when looking at the other sites that are updated via the setting in the configuration settings for Cumulus they are updating okay. Those sites are Weather Underground and Weatherbug for example.

Any ideas as to what is going on here? I have been trying for days with no luck. To say I am frustrated is an understatement.

the http://mtp.elgheko.us/ site isn't loading at all (no DNS for mtp.elgheko.us)

The http://www.elgheko.us/wxstatus.php shows
Cumulus FTP NOT Current 1:16:35 > 0:05:15 01/12/2019 5:27pm
Cumulus weather data NOT Current 1047:34:11 > 0:05:15 11/30/2018 3:10am
which indicates that FTP is working, but the same CUtags.php is being uploaded each FTP upload cycle. That happens if the Cumulus template file is clobbered (has all the <#...> variables replaced with data). Download a fresh CUtags-txt template and install in Cumulus.. that should start the data flowing again.

the URL redirects to: http://www.elgheko.us/mtp/indexDesktop.php for me. not sure if that is meant to happen, or subdomain isnt setup correctly.

aznetcowboy can you post your latest mxdiags file here.

First of all, what is an mxdiags file? And where would I find it?

As to being redirected from http://mtp.elgheko.us to http://www.elgheko.us/mtp/indexDesktop.php, yes, that is the way it is supposed to work. MTP is set up as a subdomain on my website.

With Cumulus 1 you do not have a MXDiags you have a Diags folder. Zip that up and upload it.

I have been searching, but cannot find any diags folder(s). I have searched both my backups for the past months and online. No diags folder.

I cannot find anything that means anything to me on the ftplog.txt file. And I won't upload it here as it is so large. However, I cleared the current long file and then forced a Web Update. The following it what it showed while doing the web update:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Logging in to ftp.elgheko.us
Uploading W:\Cumulus\cloudbaseCUT.txttmp
Remote file: public_html/cloudbaseCU.txt
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcurecordsT.phptmp
Remote file: public_html/wxcurecords.php

Uploading W:\cumulus\CUtags.txttmp

Uploading W:\Cumulus\data\cumuluswebtags.txttmp
Remote file: public_html/cumuluswebtags.php

Uploading W:\cumulus\davcon24T.txttmp
Remote file: public_html/davcon24.txt

Uploading W:\Cumulus\WU-History.phptmp

Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcuyearT.phptmp

Uploading W:\Cumulus\weathercloud_realtime_template.txttmp
Remote file: public_html/weathercloud_realtime.txt
FTP Error

Changing directory to images
Sending graph files
Logging out

I don't know if this shows anything of any use, but here it is. Suggestions? Like I said earlier, the updates to places like Weather Underground, Weatherbug, etc. show the current readings, but the sites at elgheko.us and mtp.elgheko.us don't and haven't for weeks.

Well, the words
FTP Error
implies there's a problem :)

FTP Errors can be caused by multiple things:
1) an incorrect userid or password (don't think that's the issue as it didn't show an error after the "Logging in" message, only after the Uploading/remote file message
2) the path for the remote file may be incorrect based on the home directory used for the FTP user/password
3) the path is correct, but the permissions on the chosen directory/file don't allow writing

You can check out 2) by manually logging in using an FTP client, and seeing where in the filesystem the public_html directory is located.. is it one down? or does the FTP drop you into the public_html directory already? If the latter, then change the remote files to remove the public_html/ from the destination.

Try that first, and if it fails, then contact the tech support for your webhoster.. they can help diagnose the issue.

I have done all that and am driving the host tech support people crazy. ;)
I can get to the files and transfer freely using fIleZilla. One thing that also does not update is the ftplog.txt file. I have selected both FTP logging and diagnostic logging. I will try the public_html idea later. I am going to be gone the rest of today, so it will probably be tomorrow before I can try it.

I have done everything suggested, but no luck. I am thinking my days as a weather station website are number anyway. We will be moving back to Wisconsin in the next few months or so and we will be moving into an apartment, so I probably won't be able to set up my Davis weather station at that time.
:(
However, in the meantime, I will keep trying to resolve this issue.

I have gone to all sorts of extremes to correct this issue, but no luck. My ISP restored me back to before this problem reared its ugly head, I restored my Cumulus softw2are back to before this all started, no luck. I can use the exact same settings in Filezilla and it works fine. But when using it in the Cumulus FTP, I get the following:

Logging in to ftp.elgheko.us
Uploading W:\Cumulus\cloudbaseCUT.txttmp
Remote file: /cloudbaseCU.txt
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcurecordsT.phptmp
Remote file: /wxcurecords.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\cumulus\CUtags.txttmp
Remote file: /CUtags.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\data\cumuluswebtags.txttmp
Remote file: /cumuluswebtags.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\cumulus\davcon24T.txttmp
Remote file: /davcon24.txt
Updating PWS Weather...
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\WU-History.phptmp
Remote file: /WU-History.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcumonthT.phptmp
Remote file: /wxcumonth.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\gauges-ssT.htmtmp
Remote file: /gauges-ss.htm
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcutodayT.phptmp
Remote file: /wxcutoday.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcuyesterdayT.phptmp
Remote file: /wxcuyesterday.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\wxcuyearT.phptmp
Remote file: /wxcuyear.php
FTP Error
Uploading W:\Cumulus\weathercloud_realtime_template.txttmp
Remote file: /weathercloud_realtime.txt
FTP Error
Uploading standard files
Sending html pages

I am baffled. Oh yes, the setting for the login are automatically pointing to the public_html folder. I made sure even by editing the cumulus.ini file, Again, no luck. I am still open to any ideas here. :bash:

"Normally" starting the remote filename with a "/" is incorrect. To upload to the FTP root directory just use the filename on its own.

Mark is correct .. you shouldn't have a / at the start of the filename.

Also, some hosters use your account filesystem location and not your website filesystem location as the default directory for FTP uploads.

For example:
If your FTP home is /var/myuser and your website document root is /var/myuser/public_html then the destination files should be
public_html/filename.ext

If your FTP home is /var/myuser/public_html (same as document root), then the files should be
filename.ext

but never just
/filename.ext
