SteelSeries Gauges for Virtual Weather Station

Post by Piero »

Hello and congratulations to the author!
I would like to know if there is a version for VWS or if versions Cumulus or WD can be adapted in some way ... I would really like to use them.

Thanks a lot

If VWS can generate a JSON file with the required data then yes it can be used.

Thanks Mark,
I think VWS can only generate the two .txt files that are used for live data on saratoga's templates, wunderground or weatherflash; I attach an example.
What do you think?

It has been a very long time since I run and used the Virtual Weather Station software...

Just had a quick look at my VWS user's manual and, starting at page 70, there is a complete list of HTML tags which can be used to insert weather station data text into a web page - I would think some of those tags could be used to create/produce a small data file that could be used by the SteelSeries gauges...

Ken True has developed a plugin (group of scripts) to incorporate into the 'PHP/AJAX Website Template Set' the data produced by the Virtual Weather Station software.

Thanks Ray,
how did you live so long without VWS? :D
It's true, VWS use a list of HTML tags to create .htm files by a .htx files using as a models.
However, the creation of these htm files can be scheduled at least once every minute, so not good for the live date.
Instead, the creation and transmission to the server of those .txt files that I listed can also be scheduled every second.
Perhaps the script of steelgauges might refer to those txt, as the scripts by Ken True that you rightly mentioned do ... but I'm not a programmer, so I can not say.
This will can tell us only Mark!

As I wrote, I'm not a programmer, so I do not know even where to start. At least now I know that you can do.
Thanks anyway, I hope that someone reading can help me.

Bye

Hi Piero,
It is good that you have visited the Cumulus forum and I hope you come here often for great information. And as you can see this is an excellent source for help with anything Cumulus and much much more. Steve in running this Cumulus forum has been great to offer us the excellent Cumulus and the just as great support. Mark has also been great in developing the SteelSeries here and this has gone beyond just Cumulus users. As you likely know VWS is an alternate weather program to Cumulus and likely a better place to raise your VWS issue is here http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?board=44.0

Hi Paul,
as you rightly says, this is an excellent forum, and from there I got a lot of useful information as user of VWS too: thank you all.
I know the vxforum, in fact mine is a problem that affects VWS but I meant contact the author directly.
I will try, however, as you suggest, to propose the problem in the wxforum to see if any user has already solved or addressed.

Thanks a lot

Piero
