Ver 1.9.4 build 1064 Rain Records

Post by GiveToLive »

Just updated from 1.9.3 build 1058

I was hoping the new build would solve a problem, no luck and created a new one.

Some how the Rainfall for month and year are not displaying. Yet when I view month and view year the totals are shown. How do I get the totals to display?

New problem: Showing "0.01 in" of rain in the last hour and for the last 24 hours. It is a clear day with no rain for the last 4 days. How do I get this to show 0.00?

It calculates the monthly and annual totals at start up from the totals in dayfile.txt, so it points to some sort of corruption in that file. It would normally flash the error light when that happens, and the error window when you click on the light would tell you where the problem was.

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, with your dayfile.txt, I can take a look at both problems. The 'last hour' and 'last 24 hours' figure look like some kind of conversion/rounding problem. Correcting those figures involves editing the 'total rain counter' values in the March log file, with Cumulus stopped.

Glen,
Not sure if this is part of the problem but your 'dayfile' has a number of duplicate days and some missing as well. Cleaning that up can't hurt.

It seems to be calculating the monthly and annual rain totals OK:

3/26/13 12:42:28.244 : Rainthismonth from dayfile.txt: 2.01999998092651
3/26/13 12:42:28.244 : Rainthisyear from dayfile.txt: 7.53999948501587
3/26/13 12:42:28.244 : Adding YTD: 0.5

But you're not seeing them on the main screen? Just zero? That's very odd.

I can't see why it was showing 0.01" rain for a short while, but I can see that some very strange things have been going on. It looks like it didn't write any data to the log files for several days. I think this is because it wasn't receiving any data from the station.

I think I understand what's happening now. The 0.01" rain figure is a bug which can happen at start up when a rain multiplier greater than 1 is being used (you're using 1.25). I should be able to fix this.

The monthly and annual rain total on the main screen get updated whenever a rain reading arrives (and only then). Given what I've seen in your diags files where data isn't being received a lot of the time, the explanation must be that no rain packets are being received. If you turn on the debug log and leave it for 10 minutes, I'll be able to see what packets are actually arriving.

I noticed that you were using COM8 and then COM6. Is that a serial/USB converter? That's likely to be the cause of the problem.

Yes, It is a converter. And yes, when I go to View the Monthly and Yearly totals they are calculated correctly, but there is no display on the main screen. I have never had this happen before.

If you let me have the debug.log file, I can investigate further.
