Last 24hrs Help Please

Post by JennyLeez »

Hi all,

Well I have played and played but I can not work this one out :)

Yesterday I had showing on Cumulus window 250.5mm of rain when in fact we have had no rain.
I could not fix so ignored it thinking once 24 hours turned it would disappear.
Alas no when the 24 hours turned I now have 406mm rain :(
The day, month and year totals are correct and anything I have altered to try and fix this has altered them as well. Hence I altered the data back.

Could someone please give advise on how I may reset this back to 0.0mm rain for the last 24 hours of which it should be.
Many thanks

Jenny

Go to this thread on false rain fall for the help you need. That should get you going.

Hi

Nope nothing there to help.
Day, month and year totals are all spot on.
It is just the last 24 hour total that is incorrect.

Thanks

0.0
0.0
460.0
7.8
1023.00

Crazy huh

Could you zip up the diags folder and attach it, please, together with today.ini and your September log file?

Yes please. I suspect your station's rain counter went loopy; the 'last 24 hour' code simply compares the current rain counter with its value 24 hours ago. But it might be a bug in my La Crosse code.

Doh .... LaCrosse

Didn't we discover it has a strange max. rain count then goes back to zero ?

Hmm... although the existing rain code copes with the rain counter resetting, the last 24 hour stuff doesn't. But that would just result in negative values for a while (which I will now fix).

Actually, I think a WS1081 is a Fine Offset rather than a 'real' LaCrosse as in WS23xx.

Hi again.

I have waited for rain to see what would happen.
Rain today and all is good.
So it has held on no rain days and triggered with rain.

My data files all look ok but I did find this
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15/09/11,13:17,22.8,43,9.6,7.2,12.2,135,0.0,0.0,1000.2,901.5,25.6,42,12.2,22.8,22.8,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,22.3,767,0.0,135
15/09/11,13:47,23.2,44,10.3,6.1,11.2,90,0.0,0.0,1000.2,901.5,25.8,40,11.2,23.2,23.2,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,23.4,717,0.0,90
15/09/11,14:17,22.8,46,10.6,6.1,11.2,90,0.0,0.0,1000.3,901.5,25.4,39,11.2,22.8,22.8,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,21.8,652,0.0,90
15/09/11,14:47,19.7,40,5.7,15.8,28.1,270,0.0,0.0,998.3,1308.3,22.1,41,28.1,19.7,19.7,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,15.6,573,0.0,270
15/09/11,15:00,19.2,41,5.6,12.4,30.6,321,0.0,0.0,998.1,1308.3,22.1,41,30.6,19.2,19.2,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,15.8,536,0.0,315
15/09/11,15:18,19.2,42,6.0,14.8,22.0,314,0.0,0.0,998.1,1308.3,22.1,41,22.0,19.2,19.2,0.0,0,0.00,0.00,15.4,479,0.0,315
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See what the rain count did.
But it did not alter the day, month or year total at all.
Anyways all good so far.
Thanks

Hi Steve,

A related comment/question: if I stop and restart Cumulus, the 'Last 24hrs' value always resets itself to 0.00, regardless of whether there has been any rain in the last 24 hrs, and then takes 24 hours to sort itself out (not surprisingly). Is this by design, or a bug?

Thanks,
Gerard (LaCrosse WS-2305)

Yes, the 'normal' rain calculation tries to allow for sudden jumps in the station rain counter. It's not so easy to do that for the 'last 24 hour' calculation because the old lower counter is already stored away. If I think of some way around it, I'll try to fix it.

It reads in the rain counter values from the monthly log files when it starts up. Perhaps you have a problem with your log file, or perhaps this time this is a bug in my La Crosse code. Have a look in the diags file for an error message about reading your log files; if you can't see anything, zip up the diags folder and your September log file and I'll have a look.
