Bugreport

Post by beeman »

Hi Steve, is there anything in Bugreport.txt that nefarious persons could use to attack our PC's? Are we making ourselves vulnerable by publishing this data? I'm sure that all the Cumulus forum members are really nice people who want to help develop Cumulus, but there's always the odd ball who likes to cause trouble.

Tell me I'm paranoid

Well, you can see for yourself what's in the file, so you can make your own mind up.

At worst, you might consider it 'personal' information, as it gives your system spec and the software you have running, so if you had forgotten to close down something potentially embarrassing... Actually, the hardware and running software details are rarely of use anyway, so I should probably turn those off. I don't think that would leave anything in there that anyone could object to. Although there was that rather odd chap a while ago who wouldn't even show me a few lines of his weather data!

I am always happy for people to send me the files by PM, provided that they start a thread in the forum also - I can't cope with doing support by private message or email, as I frequently point out. That doesn't seem to deter some people, though

It would be useful, if anyone does want to send me the bugreport.txt file by PM, if they would copy the first 30 or so lines of the file into the forum post, e.g:

I've turned off all the superfluous 'personal' stuff, so this is what a bugreport.txt looks like now, in its entirety:

For so many years that was my bible, along with "Programming the Z80". Thanks for the reminder.
